  • He is likely going to be overpaid by someone.

Also, while I don't think it's necessarily fair to judge him on his season this year because the rest of the lineup sucks, it could be the start of a downward trend.

Forgot about him. I think he's largely in the same boat, especially since he's 32 on opening day.

I don't really like any of the CF free agency options this summer. I suppose the only saving grace for Upton, Hamilton, Melky and Bourn is the abundance of options may drive all of their prices down?
What 2B options are there? Couldn't we leave Emilio out there?

I could look that up myself, but fuck it

          Second basemen
          Jeff Baker (32)
          Robinson Cano (30) - $15MM club option with a $2MM buyout
          Mike Fontenot (33)
          Orlando Hudson (35) - $8MM club option with a $2MM buyout
          Maicer Izturis (32)
          Kelly Johnson (31)
          Adam Kennedy (37)
          Jeff Keppinger (33)
          Jose Lopez (29)
          Aaron Miles (36)
          Freddy Sanchez (35)
          Ryan Theriot (33)

Nothing even remotely interesting long term.
          --------------------
Keppinger is the only one that even looks decent as a short-term stopgap.

          • I know his current #'s are unsustainable, but Ruggiano seems like a nice player. Nice enough that he could certainly put up B.J. Upton-like offensive #'s at least once his peripherals reach normal levels.

Fangraphs has him as a + defender. I think those watching the games would agree he's pretty good out there.

I'm not saying he should be our first option, but it probably wouldn't be terrible if he's our every day CF'er next year.

If they don't want to overpay for a CF'er/don't believe in Ruggiano, it would probably be a priority to get one in return if they trade Hanley or JJ.

For what it's worth, I really think Hanley is getting traded. Beinfest did not mention his name tonight when talking about the lineup. Mentioned all the other core players.

            • I don't want to trade Hanley now but I think they will, too.

              • I don't really like BJ that much either, but he is such a Beinfestball guy it's crazy. It's going to happen. And when we use the money from Hanley to sign Upton my head will explode, I'll try to get a video of it.

So Erick posted these #'s and then a bunch of people posted WAR #'s that contradict them.

                        Who posted factual #'s?

                        • there are two calculations of WAR, fangraphs (fWAR) and baseball reference (rWAR or bWAR, depending on who you ask). They are calculated in basically the same way but there are slight differences that arise, sometimes greater than others. So, both of them posted factual numbers, but Erick used fWAR and the rest used bWAR.

                          • Red Sox are desperate for a SP. Wonder if we can get Barnes for Nolasco.

                            2014 Rotation:

                            Fernandez
                            Turner
                            Barnes
                            Heaney
                            Conley

                              • They're desperate for SP. I think if JJ is traded, he'll end up in TX. They've wanted him for a couple of years and now is their best chance to get him. Obviously, if one goes, the other stays (Nolasco/Johnson).
