  • Say we trade JJ for Olt (+) hopefully.

Nolasco has to go for a CF'er, right?

What does our payroll look like for next year, say we get rid of JJ, Ricky and Bell?

    • @BBTiA: Per @BNightengale, the Rangers are "actively pursuing" MIA's Josh Johnson, and informed MIA that they would be willing to trade Mike Olt

If we get rid of all 3, and assuming young cost-controlled guys filling all current "open" spots, around $45 million.

        Buehrle $12,000,000
        Reyes $10,000,000
        Buck $6,500,000
        Bonifacio $2,750,000*
        Mujica $2,000,000*
        Dobbs $1,600,000
        Turner $1,175,000
        Hayes $750,000*
        Webb $650,000*

those would be the only guys making over $600k (using Lou's arbitration estimates on the guys with *)

        • I'm very supportive of the trades we've made so far but am I alone (I should say minority) in not being comfortable with trading JJ (who's been unlucky this year) for the 43rd top prospect in MLB (Olt)?

We'd have to get a lot more than that, right?

The JJ trade destroys fan morale

          • Fire sale? lol people are acting like we traded Hamilton or Cano for a minor leaguer. It was Hanley fucking Ramirez.

            Give me a break.

            Good riddance.

            • At this point, I do not want a trade of JJ. We can give the boot to Nolasco though for all I care.

Same. I understand the other moves but a JJ move would suck.

I believe the idea is that Olt would be centerpiece, not all we get.

In the upper offices of other clubs--where they worry about big-picture health of baseball--there is some concern about the Marlins' moves.

                      • The teams are all signing zillion dollar TV deals and the Marlins trading a slightly above average pitcher and a 3B hitting .250 is going to bring down baseball.

                        • If they had traded Reyes or Buehrle in a salary dump, then perhaps there'd be reason for concern.

I will come up with stronger figures later, but kind of hard to do it mid season. But those are pretty general and fair for our current purposes.

To be fair, Olt is probably going to be ranked a lot higher than 43rd after this year. Maybe top 10ish.
