Ok, fine. We traded for a slightly below average rental. As I said, that's basically the equivalent of nothing.

My issue with this trade Is it basically shows what the mind set of our FO is. They seem to believe we can still be contenders.

So if Lee produces like a league average first baseman the rest of the year, it's a win. If not, well you didn't give up anything of real value.
I disagree with the fact that Dominguez is automatically nothing of real value. Just last year, some of us were putting a positive spin on his #'s and saying he wasn't a bust. Now he automatically sucks and has no future?

For the record, Carlos Lee home and road OPS.

          2011: Home .796, Road . 779
          2012: Home .821, Road .665

Let's not rush to bury him because of a bad 29 games over the first half of the season, maybe?

You've been saying the same thing, so why do you have issue with such a mindset?

Certain things have come to light. And, you know, has it ever occurred to you, that, instead of, uh, you know, running around, uh, uh, blaming me, you know, given the nature of all this new shit, you know, I-I-I-I... this could be a-a-a-a lot more, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, complex, I mean, it's not just, it might not be just such a simple... uh, you know?

In other words, another year has passed for Matt Dominguez, and, in his second stint at New Orleans, he has a .647 OPS. So it is not unreasonable to expect people to jump ship at some point.

FWIW, I still think he's going to be Pedro Feliz, which is fine.

He has a .2 WAR this year.
It's funny to read your first post in this thread and then watch you disagree with me for the sake of playing devil's advocate.

This accomplishes nothing and there's no logical reason to believe this team is a contender at this point, anyway.

Do you know of any precedent for a hitter who has a below .700 OPS in 2+ seasons in AAA (and a .730 career minor league OPS) suddenly becoming a good MLB player? The kid cannot hit...it's pretty clear at this point.

What are you talking about? That wasn't about you. I was one of the people who used to say the same things about Dominguez.

Unless the FO believes the team is underperforming based on their talent level, but can still make a run if they start performing to their talent level.

I subscribe to this mindset for the most part.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Source: #Astros covering all of Lee's salary but pro-rated portion of minimum. He is owed about $9 million for the rest of the season.

I'm surprised you're cool with this move. Didn't you want this team to sell?

I don't think contention is a ridiculous notion. I don't fault the FO for thinking the same, and thn making a minor improvement in a super low risk deal to see what shakes out over the rest of July.

The point is that it is eminently reasonable to be willing to change your mind, when presented with new information. So I'm not sure why it is a problem for people to be willing to turn on Dominguez, given this new shit.

I guess we have different mindsets then.

The way you responded to that post made it seem like you took it personally for some reason.
