A bottom third team would absolutely take Volstad to try and 'fix' him for a $2.5 and relatively nothing in trade. Worth a gamble, but as we're talking Oakland I don't think they would have innings to throw at him with Cahill, Anderson, Braden, McCarthy, and Moscoso, let alone their own prospects, assuming they move Gio. Yea some of them are injury risks but they aren't trading for the backup plan. But for Volstad, they can get at least a middle of the road young reliever more than likely.
I also can't see anything less than Morrison, Dominguez/Coghlan/Ozuna, Cishek/Ceda, and a minor league arm (excluding only James) in a four player deal for Gio. Maybe the Marlins recoup a 2nd nominal player back, but it's going to be a lot for a young ace no matter how good Morrison is. There's not going to be any sneaky trade here. Gio is good and Beane has a history of trading top starters. Oakland would have to take a foursome like that pretty seriously.
I'd also do that because I don't care about Dominguez/Coghlan/Ozuna or Dunn/Cishek/Ceda because this team can replace a potential average starting players and 3rd RHP arm out of the pen. Morrison and club controlled replaceable parts for Gio. Sounds good to me both ways.
Doing something like that trade, signing Buerhle/Edwin/180+ innings, Reyes, keeping "Oviedo" and Badenhop (which makes the pen Oviedo, Mujica, Dunn, Choate, Webb, Badenhop, Cishek/Ceda which is totally fine), and getting two veteran platoon/bench bats who can moonlight in LF, is a really good offseason.
