And my thing is not that the front office won't offer the big name free agents contracts but more that we aren't going to be the only guys bidding on the big name guys. If the Yankees, Red Sox or another big market team with deep pockets and a very good roster come bidding, I don't see these free agents choosing to come here instead.

Except that this is an amazing time to go after a big name 1B like Pujols and Fielder; the Yankees and Red Sox almost certainly won't have interest in them. It's going to be us and the Cubs.
I could see the Red Sox going after Reyes, which might make him tougher to get, but other than that, the Red Sox and Yankees aren't likely to make noise in the position player market.poop
