    • Not a chance the Yankees trade him
      --------------------
And if they did it wouldn't be to us

Nor would I want it to be

Not saying I would want it either but with our franchise to get a cheap big name, I wouldnt put anything past them.

        • Cheap big name?

A-Rod makes $143 million the next 6 years (spanning years 37-42, but they are a "young" 37 as he has a midseason birthday), and that does not include $6 million bonuses for hitting historic (660, 714, 755) home runs. Yes, thats $6 million each. And there is also $5+ million in roster bonuses due in January. He's at 629 HR, and is probably still a 25+ HR a year hitter (he hit 16 in 428 PA this year). He easily gets to 660, and likely 714 if he is getting 500 AB a year for the life of his contract. His WAR the last three seasons very respectable 4.3, 3.8, and 4.2 (in 428PA which is pretty good).

I think if I'm being generous, we call A-Rod a 4.5 WAR player for two more seasons, then a four year decline of 4, 3.5, 3, and 2.5 WAR to close out this contract. That's a very unscientific or reasoned average 3.6+ WAR player over what is left of his contract. In current free agency terms, I think I'd give that player $8-12 million a year in free agency. Given that he is a draw and will reach certain milestones, you probably put A-Rod on the upper end of that spectrum. If A-Rod gets to 756, his total package is worth $166+ million.

This only makes sense if the Yankees eat somewhere in between $83-100 million, and you're still taking a pretty big financial risk of him staying healthy and being productive if you're assuming $66-83 million dollars over 6 years.
          --------------------
As a sidenote, from 2000-2005, A-Rod averaged an 8.7 WAR. Not bad.

          • I wouldn't take A-Roid (see what I did there?) if they paid us to take him.

            • Considering the Yankees gave him an inflated contract in large part because of the home-run milestones that are now almost here, I doubt they pay anyone to take him.

              • obv this needs to be worked out, but Nolasco to the Yanks and Gardner to the Marlins makes sense. We'd probably have to give something else to make the Yanks take all of Ricky's salary, but this trade proposal is under construction

                • Construction where?

                  • Under as much construction as the new 49ers stadium

                      Spoiler:
                    Which is not under construction

why would the Yankees be interested in such a deal?

they like Brett Gardner and he's pretty good

yup, he is pretty good. Yanks need the pitching, they've been linked to Ricky a few times over the last couple years. I'm not saying its a straight up swap....others would have to be involved

                          • If the Yankees need pitching WHY would they want Nolasco? The last thing the Yankees are trading for is a crappy pitcher. For that they shove a lot of money in some FAs face that is probably way better than Nolasco AND they keep Gardner.
