Zambrano is definitely still capable of rebounding and in Miami with Ozzie is the best chance of him doing so, and we'll save quite a bit of cash since bobbob is willing to pay so much of his salary.

Call me crazy but there are other options besides Carlos Zambrano. He's at the very bottom of my wish list. Do people seriously need to be reminded of the instances where he has clearly demonstrated that he is toxic?

I am well aware of the toxicity of his city.

However, even with the high payroll, it makes a lot of sense for us to go with a big name buy low guy. Zambrano is a well known player who brings some buzz, he's historically got a good relationship with Ozzie, and I think he's a fairly good bet to be a good #5 with a lot of upside and potential to go back to being really good.

It's not a priority, but if you can't convince Javy to come back and the Cubs are willing to eat >$12 million, he's an excellent buy low option.

Even if we go up to $90+ million, we should still be taking the kind of chances we took with Javy or Leiter in the past. One worked out, one didn't, but it's the kind of move that has a high chance to pay good dividends.
