Guillen gelling with Spanish players (Hanley), possibly being able to recruit some big names (remains to be seen), being the first splash for the Marlins most important off-season of their history is beyond more important than anything Jhan Marinez and Ozzie Martinez will ever do (outside of one winning a Cy or the other an MVP)

What Ramp said. Once this offseason is over, the cost for Guillen is going to pale in comparison to the value in media exposure and credibility with free agents that this move will bring.

I'm looking at this from another angle that has not been addressed yet. Guillen is going to be a very powerful voice in the organization and will have Loria's ear. I think this is going to be a very good thing considering Loria and Samson are taking an increased interest in baseball operations. That and the manager will no longer be looked at as the scapegoat. Another mediocre year and the person in charge of putting these mediocre teams together will be called out publicly and then most likely fired. I'm not saying this is a good thing, but increased pressure on Beinfest and Co. is a good thing.

Pretty surprised they ended up giving Marinez, but probably just a solid middle bullpen guy end of the day because of his control. Hurts a little short term as he was probably in the reliever 7-10 discussion for 2012, but they can probably find those 25 innings elsewhere.

Ozzie being here sure makes it more likely they'll be able to sign Mark Buherle, right? Those two never had any major disputes with each other as far as I know.

Zambrano? I don't care if he's got his entire salary paid. He's toxic and we already have enough personalities on this team. He hasn't even pitched that good the last two years.
