    • Dominguez not being ready still doesn't make Chavez a good option.

      • I won't be shocked to see Chavez hurting himself just by signing his contract.

Seriously though Chavez hasn't been good or healthy in years, why not just sign someone like Felipe Lopez (or Julio Lugo) for a million bucks instead, in the very least they could make for a somewhat useful back up infielder in the event Dominguez is somehow ready to play at the MLB level, more Lopez than Lugo.

        • or we could always be a normal team and put our CFer at 3B (or at 2b and put Infante at 3b) and go and sign someone like Mike Cameron (if he's healthy)..... but thats too easy

atleast I think Cameron is still a FA

He's not a FA, he still has 1 more year left on his deal with Boston. But I understand and agree with you on Cogz. He wasn't a very good LFer, what makes anyone think he can be even a decent CFer?

              • Here are some interesting names (at least in my opinion) of FA still available:

                Willy Aybar
                Orlando Cabrera
                Ryan Church
                Jorge Cantu
                Jim Edmonds
                Pedro Feliz
                Troy Glaus
                Christian Guzman
                Andy LaRoche
                Felipe Lopez
                Julio Lugo
                Lastings Milledge
                Scott Podsednik

Granted some guys are better than others and some of them stink, but there are still guys out there that are available. But who knows maybe one of them can get hot and have a decent year. If Glaus could stay somewhat healthy and could be cheap, he might not be a bad gamble at the 3B position, again if he can still handle the position. Obviously money is an issue but none of these guys (except maybe Podsednik) will cost a lot.

my bad on Cameron, but the Red Sox do have 75 outfielders so perhaps he would be expendable although @ $7.25mil in 2011, the Sox would have to eat half

Not sure the Sox would trade Cameron unless they could get something really useful back in his place even with all that money owed to him simply because he's a RH bat and their OF is filled with LHH. Their only RHH OFers on the 40 man roster is Darnell McDonald and Daniel Nava. Cameron can play all 3 OF positions and play them well and hits LHP would makes him an important piece in the Sox roster. While McDonald had a good season last year, and he'll probably make the team out of ST, he's weak defensively and not as good a hitter. Nava is pretty much a non factor since he's a poor defender and the Sox barely let him hit from the right side.

                    • Honestly, I think I'd rather have Wise than Cameron at $7 mil.

                      • Go get Milledge. He won't cost nothing, and will at least give you a .720 OPS with the potential for considerably more. He's average defensively, I feel like? Maybe a tick less. But whatever - Milledge in CF, Cogs at 3B, and Infante at 2nd is better than where we are w/o much costs.

                        • Disagree. Dominguez as a super defensive 3B (everything I've read suggests he might be the best defensive 3B in baseball right now) has plenty of value to this team, especially with the way the infield D sets up for this season.

I really don't think a move needs to be made until we see how Coghlan takes to center-field. Granted, it could be disastrous, and probably will be, but really there's no point in scraping a pretty decent plan right now without even giving it a shot (and for the record, if Cogs comes out of CF, I want him at second, not third).

                          • He has limited range. He's not gon be the best.

Stanton is always a fall back option in center. It isn't ideal and makes us worse defensively at two positions but it would keep the most productive bats in the line-up everyday. CC moves to 2B (assuming Dominguez is on the club) and Infante plays RF.

Dominguez may very well be above average. But are these reports coming from the same people who said Hermida could play CF circa 2004?
