I won't be shocked to see Chavez hurting himself just by signing his contract.
Seriously though Chavez hasn't been good or healthy in years, why not just sign someone like Felipe Lopez (or Julio Lugo) for a million bucks instead, in the very least they could make for a somewhat useful back up infielder in the event Dominguez is somehow ready to play at the MLB level, more Lopez than Lugo.

Here are some interesting names (at least in my opinion) of FA still available:
Willy Aybar
Orlando Cabrera
Ryan Church
Jorge Cantu
Jim Edmonds
Pedro Feliz
Troy Glaus
Christian Guzman
Andy LaRoche
Felipe Lopez
Julio Lugo
Lastings Milledge
Scott Podsednik
Granted some guys are better than others and some of them stink, but there are still guys out there that are available. But who knows maybe one of them can get hot and have a decent year. If Glaus could stay somewhat healthy and could be cheap, he might not be a bad gamble at the 3B position, again if he can still handle the position. Obviously money is an issue but none of these guys (except maybe Podsednik) will cost a lot.Last edited by Ray Finkle; 01-24-2011, 12:35 PM.

Go get Milledge. He won't cost nothing, and will at least give you a .720 OPS with the potential for considerably more. He's average defensively, I feel like? Maybe a tick less. But whatever - Milledge in CF, Cogs at 3B, and Infante at 2nd is better than where we are w/o much costs.

Disagree. Dominguez as a super defensive 3B (everything I've read suggests he might be the best defensive 3B in baseball right now) has plenty of value to this team, especially with the way the infield D sets up for this season.
I really don't think a move needs to be made until we see how Coghlan takes to center-field. Granted, it could be disastrous, and probably will be, but really there's no point in scraping a pretty decent plan right now without even giving it a shot (and for the record, if Cogs comes out of CF, I want him at second, not third).

Dominguez may very well be above average. But are these reports coming from the same people who said Hermida could play CF circa 2004?Last edited by Party; 01-24-2011, 06:45 PM.
