Like, the title is Marlins target Grienke? and then it's a bunch of posters saying "do it" and "get it done" with zero background information.

Choate made $700,000 last year in his final arbitration year. I can't imagine it would take much more to sign him. I'd suspect it would be one guaranteed year for $800-900k, and the Marlins tac on a club option for a low $1.2-1.3 number in case they want to bring him back.

I've always liked Choate. I'd love if we signed him.

The Marlins signed Randy Choate to a 2-year, $2.5M contract today. Here's some more details from MLBTradeRumors.com:

The Marlins announced that they signed Randy Choate to a two-year deal. It's worth a total of $2.5MM plus incentives, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, who first reported the deal (all Twitter links). Choate will earn $1MM in 2011 and $1.5MM in 2012 with $150K in incentives each year, depending on the number of appearances he makes. ACES represents Choate.

He may or may not be late to the hypothetical party.

MIAMI -- Perhaps the Marlins won't have to look much further than their injury list to find a lefty bat off the bench.

While the team continues to comb the market, its best option may already be on the roster.

Catcher John Baker, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery on his right elbow, may end up claiming the job as the lefty pinch-hitter until he is cleared to play defensively.

So that'll make Hayes the backup for now with BD in Triple-A.

I'd still like a run at a lefty who could also play CF, but I can understand the FO finding that redundant because in their misguided opinion, Cogs is a CF.

                              Projected bench:

                              John Baker (.763)
                              Wes Helms (.732)
                              Osvaldo Martinez (.697 MiLB)
                              Emilio Bonifacio (.623)
                              Scott Cousins (.789 MiLB)
                              Bryan Peterson (.669 MiLB)

This bench is going to be brutal if any regulars go down for an extended period of time.

Yeah, like I said in the MLB offseason thread, the bench is atrocious, even by Marlins standards.
