Based on the Toronto offer, the market sucked for Uggla.

So we could have either:

A- Stood pat and hoped that the team would internally improve from last year with Uggla and hoped the market improved in July (no gaurantee)
B- Took the best offer of major league talent to improve the team now while clearing up a bunch of salary

I'm fine with this.

I haven't been following this too closely, but if negotiations broke down between the FO and Uggla, then the FO knew they were going to trade him, right? Why would they leak the salary demands, how obstinate Uggla was being, and so forth, if those salary demands essentially lowered his trade value? I guess it's probable that his demands would have made it out eventually, but why shoot yourself in the foot?

maybe they wanted to release the numbers to push uggla toward accepting. Or, because of the MLB verdict last year they at least could say "well we offered him a big contract, he just turned it down" after the trade so it doesn't just look like a salary dump?

is it possible the buck deal is backloaded? do we know if it's straight 6-6-6? knowing that we have the stadium in a year and we need the flexibility this year, is it possible it's something like 4.5-6.5-7 or something? you know way more about payroll than i do but i'm curious
