1.5 mil represents roughly 2% of the Marlins on-field payroll, his $6 million 2010 salary represents roughly 13% of the payroll. I'm not saying it's an astounding number, but it's hardly insignificant, especially when you consider he's our third highest paid (internally, so no N-Rob) player this season.

If you can shed that without sanctions, any information suggesting the Marlins HAD to take on payroll in deadline moves was dead wrong.

Right-hander Evan Reed, one of two pitchers the Marlins acquired from the Rangers for Jorge Cantu on Thursday, made his organizational debut with Double-A Jacksonville on Saturday. He may not see the mound again for a while.

Reed, who turns 25 in December, allowed a hit with a walk and a strikeout over 1 2/3 scoreless innings before complaining about pain in the back of his right elbow. The Marlins are in the process of getting him checked out. A product of Cal Poly, Reed went to the Rangers in the third round of the 2007 draft.
