With all the rumors of Uggla and Nolasco getting extensions, I wouldn't be surprised if there was an organizational shift in policy for offering FAs arbitration. COUGHSTADIUMCOUGH

No clue about names. We liked Beau Jones(LOOGY) in the offseason but no idea.Well u gotta look at the market. Royals got 2 prospects for Callaspo,so that is what all the teams will ask for, plus we will be paying his salary. That equals 2 prospects plus even better ones because paying his salary. Then if Beinfest says he is gonna offer arbitration to Cantu who will be Type B he can prolly get a younger guy from the DSL or Low A Ball thrown in. So comes out to 3 prospects

Source: #Marlins in "ongoing conversations" with #Rangers about Cantu. Fish also talking to #Rockies, #Giants. Rangers also (more) #MLBconsidering #Orioles' Wigginton, others. Fish would move Coghlan to 3B, call up L. Morrison to play LF. #Rangers #MLB

Everyone has been complaining about this offense all year and, if this happens, we're losing (whether you like it or not) one of our best run producers. I don't care if he's a below average bat "at his position." That is really meaningless at this point, especially when you're replacing him with Coghlan, who is NOT a third-base type of hitter.
Due to the fact that everyone here has pretty much followed his career, how you can all think Cantu is not due to go off at some point really puzzles me.

As for last time Cogs played third, not sure about last year but I know he did in 08. I'm just surprised the Marlins want him there but it's fine with me.LHP Chad James-Jupiter Hammerheads-

b) no one said they're expecting him to produce right off the bat
c) he played some 3b in the minors last year (I'm not God but I know that)
d) driving runners home with flyouts because the 1-3 hitters get on base ahead of you doesn't make you a great run producer, that's just opportunistic
e) doesn't really matter if Coghlan isn't a 3B type hitter since Uggla isn't a 2B type hitterOriginally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

b) You're inserting him into the lineup on (in my opinion) a playoff contending team. That's expecting him to produce right away.
c) He was barely in the minors last year and (if I'm not mistaken) predominantly played second base over his final two years or so in the farm system.
d) I never said he was a "great" run-producer; just that he is one of the better ones on the team.
e) Which proves my point that judging hitters by position is essentially pointless.
