      He is a mean man.

      • Okay, fine, so he needs to work on how he pitches with runners on base. In case you haven't noticed, none of our starters our very good at that. Even JJ has guys that run on him. If we sent down all of our pitchers who need to work on holding runners, we wouldn't have any pitchers left on our staff.

At the risk of hearing a bunch of "I told you so's", I am starting to agree with you guys in that he was sent down to get an extra start instead of going 8-9 days between starts. He is scheduled to start Friday night and would be able to pitch on the 20th, albeit on 3 days rest instead of the regular 4. West is not scheduled to pitch again until Saturday. If that holds up, he wouldn't be able to start on the 20th.

          • I was talking about the stolen base thing. Not batting average against.

            • It's not about holding runners, it's about pitching worse with runners on.

              • Right, but that's not what they're talking about. They're talking about this:

                No one on: .244/.312/.356 .667
                Runners on: .289/.358/.487 .845

nny's numbers are even more telling

                  • MLB average (this year)

                    None on: .717 OPS, 2.44 K/BB
                    Men on: .756 OPS, 1.77 K/BB

                    • Anibal's been worse with runners on. Nolasco's been better to the tune of almost 80 OPS points.

NateBob has been comparable to Volstad, of course. Because Volstad's basically been a younger version of him this year.

This is not why he was sent down.

                        • It has to be most of it. Even this newsest stat that Hugg just threw out says that he's not even the worst pitcher on the staff. If he was just sent down when he's not the worst starter on the staff with no one brought up to replace him, then our front office is retarded.

                            • It was to get him an extra start, but they wanted him to get that extra start to work on stuff. They didn't want to give him time off like everyone else because he needs the work.

                              • They should have given him a vacation though, because he was not the worst. NateBob should be working on getting better at AAA. That young guy has lots of room to grow and I know they believe in him, so he should be working on stuff with the Edwins at AAA. NateBob lost the competition to see who is worst right before the All Star Break, thus he should be at AAA getting some extra work in.
