all I read was "Volstad's great. Volstad's wonderful. Volstad shouldn't have been sent down."

Why Was Volstad Really Sent Down?

Okay, fine, so he needs to work on how he pitches with runners on base. In case you haven't noticed, none of our starters our very good at that. Even JJ has guys that run on him. If we sent down all of our pitchers who need to work on holding runners, we wouldn't have any pitchers left on our staff.
At the risk of hearing a bunch of "I told you so's", I am starting to agree with you guys in that he was sent down to get an extra start instead of going 8-9 days between starts. He is scheduled to start Friday night and would be able to pitch on the 20th, albeit on 3 days rest instead of the regular 4. West is not scheduled to pitch again until Saturday. If that holds up, he wouldn't be able to start on the 20th.

It's not about holding runners, it's about pitching worse with runners on.

They should have given him a vacation though, because he was not the worst. NateBob should be working on getting better at AAA. That young guy has lots of room to grow and I know they believe in him, so he should be working on stuff with the Edwins at AAA. NateBob lost the competition to see who is worst right before the All Star Break, thus he should be at AAA getting some extra work in.
