seriously if we hire bo porter they're fucking retarded. i mean, why not just let edwin finish the year and look for a legit manager in the offseason (even one that can be a pushover)?

So I talked to my friend who was a scout for the Mets for many years and he said that Bobby V is a great manager but is a control freak. That wouldn't mesh well with Loria being one as well.
He also said that he is so smart with baseball knowledge that he (Valentine) sometimes sounds like a know-it-all.

One source says that something happened in the final discussions between Loria and Valentine — not a squabble over money or struggle over control, but a philosophical dispute.
Others, however, suggest that Loria is engaged in an internal power struggle with his stepson, club president David Samson, who is opposed to hiring Valentine.
Since 2005, Samson has been the loudest preacher of 'fiscal sanity.' He reportedly pushed Loria to dismantle the 2005 team. He bitched about the Ichiro contract publicly. He was reportedly overruled by Loria during the JJ extension talks.
Power struggle may not be the right word to describe it, but for five years now Samson has publicly and privately tried to assert his control over the team using the veil of fiscal sanity.
Is Bobby Valentine in or out as the Marlins continue their managerial search?
How about in and out?
While the Marlins informed the commissioner’s office that they no longer are considering Valentine, one major-league source described Bobby V’s status as merely “out for now.”
Edwin Rodriguez could remain interim manager the entire season, the source said. The Marlins then would broaden their search in the off-season. At that point they could revisit Valentine – if they do not turn to him sooner.
As of noon ET Tuesday, there remained two differing versions of how the Marlins’ initial talks with Valentine disintegrated:
* Marlins officials were turned off by Valentine during their initial phone conservations with him.
* Valentine grew disenchanted with the Marlins and decided to pull back and consider other options.
The Marlins’ need to interview other candidates to satisfy the commissioner’s guidelines on minority hiring also might have contributed to the process slowing down, sources said.
Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico, and Diamondbacks third base coach Bo Porter, an African-American, both have interviewed for the position that opened when the Marlins fired Fredi Gonzalez.

And that makes sense because Samson is (supposed to be, despite his comments on personnel) the business guy. His primary concern is supposed to be the bottom line. Loria's "love of baseball" probably overrules him at times, such as when Loria comes up with "special money." I'm just going to assume from now on that any "special money" is spent over the objection of Samson.
Anyway, keeping Edwin on for the rest of the year (or hiring Bo Porter) and blowing up the team seems likely. Problem is that if they hire Bo Porter they can't really revisit Valentine in the offseason, because you don't hire a guy from outside the organization and then fire him after half a season. Well, most organizations wouldn't treat someone that way, but the Marlins probably would.
I don't see a problem with waiting until the offseason for a new manager. This team isn't making the playoffs, unless like 15 things come together. Just wait until the offseason when they'll have more time to evaluate all the candidates and select the appropriate subservient figurehead.
I doubt it was Loria that overruled Samson on JJ. I think it was pure common sense and Loria's worrying about his own personal safety that the 4th year was conceded to.
