Rosenthal is saying the struggle is not over money, or, alternatively, that the Loria wants to hire Valentine and Samson does not. If your boy is getting his info from Rosenthal, why is your boy's info contradicting what Rosenthal is writing?
The article says
One source says that something happened in the final discussions between Loria and Valentine — not a squabble over money or struggle over control, but a philosophical dispute.
Others, however, suggest that Loria is engaged in an internal power struggle with his stepson, club president David Samson, who is opposed to hiring Valentine.
I am saying from what he told me is the philosophical dispute is over the willingness to spend money. My buddy didnt say anything about Samson.

I don't buy this Bobby V stuff being a distraction.
So like when Hanley is up with the bases loaded, he's probably wondering what kind of daiquiri Fredi is drinking. Or like when a groundball comes to Uggla, he's all wondering if Bobby V can even grow a real mustache.
Edwin seems like a horrible manager.

I would be upset if we hired Porter, sends all the wrong messages.
One, we dismissed him in the offseason. Two, he was interviewed as an afterthought. Three, the move was made, at least outwardly, to get Bobby V.
This isn't me clamoring for Valentine, but the organization has to at least look like it knows what it's doing, this doesn't help that.

Yeah, hiring Bo Porter is just stupid. He was fired in the offseason for a reason. He's not good enough to coach 3rd base and the outfielders (IIRC) but he's good enough to manage the entire team?
As for the distraction thing, I can kind of see where he's coming from. Not that the players are thinking about specifics on the field but more that the whole team is now pressing after putting the blame on themselves for Fredi getting fired. That's what it feels like which is why I said that the firing backfired.

He was not fired, he was offered a contract and he declined.

Giving the job to someone no one cares about (and who is familiar with the team), and will sack him in 1 1/2 years for a high profile manager.
