He gets that payroll in stadium years and he'd be signed for the first few so I disagree. The Marlins are a really attractive job because of (1) Hanley, (2) Johnson, (3) New stadium, (4) tons of payroll flexibility, (5) assortment of good to better young players with Coghlan, Volstad, Stanton, Morrison, etc., and (6) an excellent 'baseball' front office signed through first few years of the stadium. Despite the struggles this year, everything is lined up for a run if 2/3rds the pieces this organization has develops, and they get 2-3 $6-12 million free agents to plug holes.

The only bad thing with this organization right now is sheer doucheness of how upper management treats their employees. I agreed with the Girardi firing because he was a bad manager, but the way they went about it was still crazy. Now this move simply reenforces what is going on. They don't give a shit and treat this uber-business like everyone is expendable. Which is true, but it still breeds a negative atmosphere and I am not surprised in the least the team is tanking as a result. Dave Collins was smart to get out. Would you want to work for these guys, if you had options like Bobby V does? Baltimore ain't a bad job. Awesome young pitching, a couple of bats, and an owner who won't get involved like Loria and will spend for a FA.

This is what I think happened. They want a managerial patsy like Art Howe was for Billy Beane. Bobby AIN'T going to do that. They want a yes man to follow Samson's explicit instructions and force players they don't want down their throats, force assistant coaches they don't want, and play "their guys" whatever the hell that means. Bobby probably told them to fuck off. He is much more honorable than these guys.

I love the Marlins. I will keep my season ticket package, but these guys treat people like shit and that is bad business. There is really no way around it. They have some major PR rehabilitation to do. The best thing they could have done was to hire Valentine, and step back and let Larry and Bobby run the show. These idiots are turning into the Dan Snyder (in the mingling aspect, obviously not payroll) or Paul Allen of MLB. Which is ironic, since as just stated, they don't even spend money to mingle with.
