• A Marlins official said these were owner Jeffrey Loria's issues with Fredi Gonzalez: He went too much by-the-book, didn't follow his instincts enough, upset Loria with some strategic decisions; and his team wasn't good enough fundamentally.

• Magic coach Stan Van Gundy said on 790 The Ticket that Loria's comments about being committed to winning are ``delusional'' and he's not ``rational.'' And another Gonzalez friend, Braves manager Bobby Cox, told us before the firing that it's unreasonable for Loria to expect playoffs. ``If he wants to get extra parts and spend money, then you can say that would be reasonable,'' Cox said.

So what is realistic with this roster? ``We should be a little better than .500,'' Gonzalez said 1 ½ weeks ago, noting the bench was his worst in four years.
