### The Marlins want to add another bat this offseason and would be open to moving Christian Yelich to first base --– where he played in high school --- if they have better luck finding a quality free-agent left fielder than first baseman. One problem is that disappointing Garrett Jones is due $5 million next season. The Marlins would like to upgrade there nevertheless.

If they picked up Hammer, who I really doubt will command much, and did Jones/Hammer platoon, and Dietrich/Baker platoon, that would automatically be a significant upgrade. Then you still have money for a lefty bench bat, and maybe a veteran starter, but obviously Dietrich is not gonna play.
I actually expect them to keep Dietrich, but keep him in New Orleans out of spite.Last edited by Nick; 09-10-2014, 02:44 PM.

Aoki happened to be the one name I picked out as a someone they might be able to get for a decent price, because I don't think they're going to spend $8m+ to move Garret Jones to the bench.
By all means, if they want to spend more, target someone better. But they're looking for a leadoff hitter and corner outfielder, and he would be a fine choice for both.

I'm skeptical of the Marlins' willingness to spend real money and their ability to target the right guys if they do spend money. So, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯poop

Only way I'd move Yelich to 1B is if we're getting an OF'er who's a clear upgrade over our current situation at 1B. I don't think that Aoki is that guy.
