I like this move a lot. At best you get someone to slot at the top of the rotation. At worst you get an average left-handed reliever with a contract the (or any other) team could absorb without major repercussions after 2012.

I think good Chapman is much more likely than bad Chapman.

It could be that, or it could be that the FO feels he really wants to pitch in Miami.

I do not see it as such an empty gesture. Not only do you have the difference in taxes, but it is not unreasonable to think that Chapman might sacrifice about a million over 5 years to play in what would be a more familiar environment.

If were I were a young pitcher I'm not so sure Boston would be at the top of my list of places I would want to go. They have like 7 or 8 starting caliber guys there who are all already better than me and if I do somehow get the chance I will be on a very short leash with criticism ready and waiting.

Totally agree-someone will come out of the FO and say when we don't get him-"Well we made a fair offer,he just did not want to play".Makes us look like we tried our hardest instead of not even trying

Plus with the income tax it is more than Boston however if his agent goes to Boston and says we need more they would give him it. I highly doubt that 15.5 million was Boston take it or leave it number

I would love him to be here-plays in minors(AA and AAA) to start the year and then up to majors.At worst a power arm in the bullpen and best a #2 or #3 Lefty Starter I just think like most the Cuban pitchers he is more about the cash then the market
