Marco Vargas, who FanGraphs listed as our #9 prospect and I had never heard of has a 1.048 OPS in his first 34 ABs in the FCL. 18 years old. Definitely one to watch.

They'd have to do like this as a base lineup not accounting for the Arraez/Soler off days which would be an every other week bonus for someone. Garcia is a DFA here as well as the other of Yuli/Cooper.
C Fortes (3), Stallings (3)
1B Cooper/Yuli (3), Arraez (3)
2B Arraez (3), Wendle (2), Berti (1)
SS Amaya (4), Wendle (2)
3B Segura (4), Berti (2)
LF DLC (4), Edwards (1), Berti (1)
CF Jazz (3), Edwards (3)
RF Sanchez (4), DLC (1), Soler (1)
DH Soler (5), Jazz (1)
Starts per week
6 - Arraez, Soler
5 - DLC
4 - Jazz, Wendle, Amaya, Berti, Segura, Edwards, Sanchez
3 - Fortes, Stallings, Cooper/Yuli
Not opposed at all, and if Jazz shows he is healthy and Amaya and Edwards hit, Segura and Cooper/Yuli's time is in a lot of trouble quickly as those 7 starts can be reapportioned quickly.

FG also updated their draft big board - https://www.fangraphs.com/prospects/...2023-mlb-draft
TLDR
13 guys FV45+ or up
C - 1
SS - 1
3B - 2
CF - 1
... and no thanks
OF - 1
SP - 4
High school - 3
Without knowing anything else, count me in on Kyle Teel (C), Jacob Wilson (SS), Tommy Troy and Yohandy Morales (3B and Morales is a Hurricanes), and Crews (CF)
Latest CBS mock draft has Crews 1, Teel 6, Wilson 8, Troy 28, and Yohandy not 1st (Marlins taking a SS fangraphs has in 30s, Jacob Gonzalez Ole Miss)
MLB.com latest mock has Crews 1, Teel 6, Wilson 15, Troy 20, and Morales 32 (Marlins taking a high school SS/3B Nimmala, fangraphs has 29)
Seems like this Wilson guy may be a top idea given both think Marlins go infield and Wilson is in this range as presumably a fast moving college player. Looks like there are a few other 3B types who may be around in round 2 so probably has priority here over some other guys.
A very strange FG scouting report for a guy this high. Sounds like a guy who doesn't have star power upside, but "we like guys who don't strike out" so this seems pretty on point for what they want. We shall see. - It will take quite a career for Wilson to surpass Tim Salmon as the best player in Grand Canyon's history, but the son of former slick-fielding shortstop Jack Wilson is poised to be the highest-drafted prospect from the school. He had the lowest strikeout rate among qualified college hitters in 2022 at a microscopic 2.8%, and only swung and missed 18 times during his junior year. He posted a whopping 10-to-1 ball-in-play-to-whiff ratio during the 2023 college season and ended his college career hitting .361/.419/.558. A lot of Wilson's contact is incredibly light and on the ground. He is rail thin, especially throughout his forearms, and he needs to get stronger to withstand the day-to-day grind of pro ball, let alone have any kind of big league power. But Wilson has fantastic vertical barrel accuracy, flattening his path to impact pitches at the top of the zone and dipping to scoop low ones, which he often drives the other way. He can poke pitches on the outer edge to the opposite field, but does most of his extra-base damage to his pull side. He may only ever have a one-note offensive profile but it's the most important note, a very loud note, and that's usually enough to play shortstop, where Wilson has become very good over the last year. He's rangy, acrobatic and has a surprisingly strong arm for such a skinny guy. His floor is that of a light-hitting utility guy in the Kevin Newman mold, but Wilson's bat will probably be special enough to carry him to an everyday role.

My guy Jake Eder has been surprisingly bad in four rehab starts. After three unimpressive outings of just a few innings each at Jupiter, he tossed batting practice on behalf of Pensacola last night. Huge disappointment for me because I was expecting a strong return.

New MLB top 100 prospect list is out. 2 Marlins - Perez and Meyer, with Perez on the outs now.. The heartbreaker: Brooks Lee, the prospect that everyone in the world except the Marlins staff would have selected in Jacob Berry slot, is now the 21st ranked prospect! That alone should set Kim to packing.Last edited by Lee Stone; 06-26-2023, 06:47 PM.

jacob berry has finally actually picked it up a little in june. Still been terrible but improved every month. .477 OPS in April, .509 in May, and so far .796 in june with more walks this month than he had the first 2 months combined. Hope he ends the year strong and can start next year in aa

Fangraphs Mock Draft - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2023-mock-draft-1-0/
Has Marlins selecting a college SS which makes sense - Jacob Gonzalez
And then I read the write up
Gonzalez is a really tough evaluation because he performed for three years in the best conference in the country, but his swing and the way he plays defense are both atypical of a good big leaguer. After three seasons in the SEC, he wrapped his career with a .319/.427/.561 line and 30 more total walks than strikeouts. He shares many similarities with Bryson Stott: a left-handed hitting shortstop with a swing geared for low-ball contact and secondary skills that have allowed him to get by on defense despite his non-traditional style of throwing and middling range. Gonzalez's hands, actions, quick transfer, internal clock, and arm accuracy all make him a likely pro shortstop despite him lacking the traditional speed/range and max-effort arm of a big league shortstop. His level of statistical performance is rare and Gonzalez will barely be 21 on draft day, but his swing has a huge hole at the top of the zone that I fear will be exploited in pro ball. He hasn't become meaningfully stronger during his time at Ole Miss (in fact, he's regressed a little bit as an athlete) and often needs to wind up his whole body to swing hard, making mechanical concessions in the process. It's a more extreme version of the issues JJ Bleday would eventually be exposed by, and Bleday's SEC performance was also a red herring. There's volatility here. Gonzalez has some premium skills and baseball feel, and he was an exceptional college performer, but he doesn't pass the eye test. He's arguably young enough to improve upon his athleticism and strength as a pro, and I think he needs to do so if he's going to be more than a utilityman.

I really like Nolan Schanuel at that pick. His mix of plate discipline, power potential, age(just turned 21), and locality(from Boynton Beach and played at FAU). He is apparently pretty solid at 1B as well. He could be a marketable player that moves through the system quickly.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."
