I believe in that too, but if the kid is tearing it up, it's time to move up. This has been the case for him this year, he should be in AA.

If he comes up to AA and puts similar numbers for the rest of the year, you'd have to consider him for the job next year, in my opinion.

    This guy looks so polished:

There's no way he doesn't put up a .750 OPS in the majors right now.

I love that the kid hits .300 everywhere he goes. That consistent .390 OBP is gonna be fun whenever he reaches the majors.

First though, Yelich needs to see Jacksonville, ASAP.

It's not his fault, but I'm seriously having so many Logan Morrison flashbacks with him

That's not a bad comparison, Bobo.

Just hopefully he doesn't flop like Justis has thus far.

One minor area of concern for me is that he had a .373 BABIP last season and a .385 mark this year. He strikes out a good amount for a guy with average-ish power. I just worry about getting too high on a guy who's only elite skill so far seems to be avoiding outs when he makes contact.

Like, he's probably going to be awesome, and he's a borderline-elite prospect. I just hope we don't see him until next September, or something.

He's kind of the anti-Lomo, though. Lomo showed a different elite skill in every year in the minors (One year big power; another high average; another tons of walks), but never put it all together. Yelich may not have any elite skills, but he seems solid to above-average across the board.

I agree, I don't want him anywhere near Miami until September 2013 at the earliest.

Definitely no reason to rush him unless of course he is doing what he is doing now in AA and we need an outfielder to make a playoff push next July/August otherwise just give him a shot in September and let him show he is ready for the job there and during Spring training 2014.

And on a completely different note, can someone please tell me Skipworth will never get a start against a lefty again in his life. This year's splits: OPS: .752 / .451 K% 28.4% / 39.4%. I don't think it's necessary to go anywhere else with those stats. He may just be the perfect platoon catcher.

He's still only hitting .245 vs. RHP. And his defense isn't that good (from what I've heard over the years) so I don't know if he's even worth that.

His OPS against Righties is pretty good. I know his average isn't high but he'll at least hit for power against them.

I remember hearing mixed things about his defense. Do you realize our starting catcher has hit over .245 twice in his career and that both of our catchers are hitting below .245 vs righties and lefties? I'll take that batting average with his power vs righties all day long if he can give average defense. So basically his potential is what Buck should be doing but he will be doing it for the minimum for 3 years. If Skipworth can keep his stat line vs righties and play average defense, he will without a doubt make it to the majors.
