Players and some coaches told me that his defense is really bad and regressed, while one or two told me it was good, but I believe it was to save face.

One good sign is his passed balls are way down this year. 6 in 76 G this year (.078/g) vs. 50 in 270 the rest of his pro career (.185).

Skipworth said he just has to be able to hit more consistently. He said he has progressed as a player this season, despite the statistics. Suns manager Andy Barkett agreed.

“He is much more mature,” Barkett said. “He understands what he has to do, and is an overall better player.”

One of the ways Skipworth has matured has been realizing that his potential ticket to the big leagues someday won’t be just about offensive production.

“I know now that I can have an impact on the defensive side of the ball, and that’s something I had to learn,” Skipworth said. “I didn’t set specific goals for this season besides to be as good as I can be defensively.”

Skipworth has a .992 fielding percentage this season, which is on pace to be the best of his career. He also has thrown out 32 percent of attempted base-stealers.

Skipworth is what he is and will contribute to the club in some way for at least his CC years.

Brad Hand is putting together a pretty good season, is there any possibility of him sticking in the back end of the rotation? Could get a long look for the No 5 slot next year.

Skipworth's HR was off a left-handed reliever who hadn't allowed a home run to a lefty all season.

                        Baseball is the best.

I see Fernandez up in the big leagues next year for sure. Obviously not starting the season, but maybe mid way or through the end.

Andrew Heaney is making his professional debut on Thurdsay.

Is there some kind of limit on Fernandez to 5 innings? All six starts in Jupiter he's gone exactly five innings.
