Im waiting for a friend to drive up from back home so I can do his too, I'd rather just knock them out the same day and devote a day to it

Ok, so I didn't realize the timing of tonight's round, we're only going to have the one tonight...

    • When can we start submitting contracts to our players? Do we have to wait for the draft to be over or can we start doing it now to see what kind of cap space we have?

      Comment

      • Wait till after, please... besides, I think it's better to wait and see what the auto-assigned contract will be first, so you can assess whether or not to utilize the "real" or "5m" contracts.

        • What's the difference in the "real" and 5 million dollar contracts? Also, when will it assign the contracts?

          • When the sim starts, here are how contracts will be broken down, more or less... Nny can probably go into better detail where applicable:

Players under 3 years of ML experience = 350k contracts
4-6 years = arbitration, as decided by the game

6+ the computer will generate a contract for the player based on; age, skill, talent, potential, positional scarcity, etc. (this is similar to what a player would ask for as a FA without a bidding war.)

Additionally, if you do not like the above options, you can give 3 players a "special" contract:

You can (preferably linking to Cots Contracts or something) choose a player's "real life" current contract to be his in-game contract. This will basically just be the total of the contract divided by total years. (I will also include the player/team/mutual option as necessary)

Now, let's say, a la bobbob, you get Barry Bonds, and he isn't going to play long... so, you don't want to pay him 15m a year to retire the next year and he doesn't have a real contract to base it on... in this case you can use the "franchise" tag and I will assign the player a 1 year, 5M contract.

You can mix and match any of the 2 above options no more than 3 times. Conversely, you don't have to do them at all.

            • I'm assuming by the draft times that we will only be doing one round tonight?

              Comment

              • Yeah, I have a job interview tonight, and I'd really rather just start MiLB drafting on a separate day, so everyone can sit down and just give 100% focus on that.

                  • Alrighty lady and gents...The new league file is in the process of uploading.

Round 20 will start tomorrow and it will be the first phase of the minor league portion of the draft.

You will be free to select WHOMEVER YOU WANT.

Still want that backup catcher, fine. Finally want Tim Lincecum? Fine.

At the moment, the plan is to do 15 rounds of this unrestricted draft, but that may be expanded if demand dictates.

The 3 hour rule will not be in effect for round 20, but we will require all teams auto'd in round 20 to submit a list to be taken off of auto.

                    Thanks everyone.

                      • just 1 round tomorrow right? since it is one of the most important draft rounds? 2 rounds works too I guess

                        • The plan is to do 1 round tomorrow and then 2 rounds each day thereafter.

Thanks for going over all of this. I just have two more questions, though. If we chose to use the "real life" contracts, would the salaries be based on the actual value for 2010 (the real next year) or for 2007, which would be the year the game is using? For example, I am definitely interested in doing this for David Wright. He signed his extension with the Mets at the end of 2006 for the start of the 2007 season. Would his game salary be his salary for 2010 ($10 million with 3 years remaining on his contract) or for 2007 ($1 million with 6 years remaining)? Or would you just take the $55 million total value and divide that by 6? If you do it like that, would I have the full 6 years for the game?

Also, I assume the game uses the major league service time listed in the game to figure out salary, correct?

                            • Awesome! I'm scheduled to pick right around the time I need to be at the rink.

Are we going to be strict about the deadlines? Say if 7:50 comes, can I just make my pick and go?

                                That's an interesting question.

I'm going to say that I'm going to allow the contract that the player is CURRENTLY using IRL, as, obviously, player value fluctuates a little bit so this isn't perfect, but it's still not shabby.

So, for instance, if you gave Wright his contract, this is what I would do:

                                His real contract status is:
                                # 09:$7.5M, 10:$10M, 11:$14M, 12:$15M,
                                13:$16M club option ($1M buyout)
                                # award bonuses: $50,000 each for Gold Glove, All Star selection
That is 5 years and 62.5M, so it would be 12.5/year for 5 years. I would also add the club option at the end (No "buyouts" in OOTP) and I would also put in a 50K MVP award bonus. (we don't have bonuses for those, but we have AB/MVP for hitters and CY/IP for pitchers)
