NEW YORK -- Melky Cabrera has been disqualified from the National League batting title at his own request, a person familiar with the discussions tells The Associated Press.

Cabrera asked the players' association to convey his desire to the commissioner's office and that an agreement to make him ineligible was reached Friday, AP's source said. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no announcement had been made.

Steroids aside, I don't think he should win it anyway. When all is said and done, McCutchen will have over 100 more AB's this season than Melky. Sustaining a batting average like that over a full season is more impressive than whatever Melky did.

What the Orioles have done is more impressive because of the talent levels of the 2 teams, so the Orioles should be the ones to make the playoffs.
