  • RIP "The Kid"

Hall of Fame catcher Gary Carter died Thursday. The 11-time All-Star who won a World Series in 1986 with the Mets had been battling cancer.

I lived in NY as a kid and loved the Mets. All of them. Cancer is the worst.

I don't mean to sound like an ass but he played 5 years with the Mets which resulted in a .249/.319/.412 line. His 5 OPSes declined drastically: .853, .776, .682, .659, and .515 (!). His "greatness" was with the Expos and not the Mets despite the World Series extra innings heroics. He hit under .200 in the 86 NLCS and the Mets released him after he shit the bed in 89. That people associate him with the Mets frustrates me to no end.

The Mets latch on to anyone/thing that gives them franchise a faux sense of grandeur.

                    Look at Citi Field.
