  • Some game action > None? It just depends on how you use that action to make your evaluation and what you think you are getting out of that evaluation.

That's fine, but I don't think you can make a mechanical evaluation from a 15 AB body of work at this level. Most mechanical issues when batting are not constant. They show up in certain situations, pitches, locations, etc and even then, not every time. It's how I can notice something and say this:

on March 2nd, and not see this reported until 3 weeks later:

Re: Hanley Ramirez--working on getting his front foot down in his swing sooner, eliminating a hitch he developed; FLA sure he'll bounce back
I imagine Hanley and Mallee were working on it before this was reported but not for 3 weeks. Probably didn't do it often enough to warrant work on it earlier. Maybe once or twice a week, if that.

      • Well, yeah.

But saying "I don't want this guy" because of 15 PAs is taking it too far. This shouldn't drastically alter anyone's opinion.

        • Major League spring training teams from the left more than a month, although the "Little Prince" Feld (Prince Fielder), Oscar Wote name pitcher (Roy Oswalt) and other free-agent movement is still uncertain, the market Redu may be the most "hidden version of" free agent - former Cuban national team outfield Sai Peida (Yeonis Cespedes).
          -You know where it's from.

            • I'm honestly going to be shocked if this guy hits better than .261/.323/.456 (.779).

In case you are wondering, that's free agent Cody Ross' career line.

              • Do you think he can top .256/.323/.410 (.733)?

In case you are wondering, that's free agent Cody Ross' most recent two season.

                • I would still take the under, but barely. He's not going to walk at all.

                  • when you consider that:

                    a) Cody is on the wrong side of 30, and
                    b) Yoenis has built in appeal that Cody will never have, and
                    c) Cody is what he is and is likely to regress, while you know there's at least some potential in Cespedes

I cannot fathom why you would rather have a Cody Ross at 2/10 or 3/15 than a Yoenis Cespedes at 6/30. If the asking price is $45-60 like was once reported then that's insane, but it seems like that was just the hypeman doing his thing.

                    • I'd rather have nothing than Cody at 2/10 or 3/15.
                      --------------------
That sentence could be misconstrued as there's nothing I'd rather have than Cody at 2/10 or 3/15 when what I actually mean is that not spending money is better than Cody at 2/10 or 3/15.

                        • Cespedes is a risk at any price.

However it's a risk the team should take, as long as it's not the $60 million guaranteed number or anything close. If it's 6/42, I think I'd do it. It's a high-risk, high-reward contract that would potentially pay itself back.

And I don't think $7 mil cripples the franchise, or makes it so we can't extend Stanton. I think this is similar to the Pujols situation; it comes from a different pot.

Not sure how it's really similar to the Pujols situation. The Marlins wanted Pujols because he's good. The Marlins want Cespedes because he's Cuban (not saying he isn't talented or that he can't be good, but that his ethnicity seems to be the major factor).
