  • That's insane if true. This guy is going to be Aaron Rowand 2005-2009. Which is 4 Cody Ross years and 1 Shane Victorino year. Godspeed.

If #Marlins lose Wilson on top of Pujols, biggest beneficiary could be Cespedes. #ML

        • I think I might actually be a little angry with we got after Cespedes with that money. Just use on Stanton or something.

          • It's true though. He could be the biggest beneficiary. I haven't seen any evidence to the contrary.

            • Cespedes sounds like a new STD

              • Just got back from my final that I had failed to study adequately for the last three days. Before going in, there was a tweet from one of the CBS writers that the Marlins are going to be heavily in on Cespedes regardless of their recent free agency spending.

                • I've read that the Marlins have interest in Yoenis Cespedes. Has the team shown any serious interest in Jorge Soler, or is he not on their radar at all?
                  -- Eddie A., Chicopee, Mass.

Pursuing Cespedes is more realistic at this point. The team is well aware of Soler, and the front office has scouted him. The outfielder is very impressive. He has tremendous power potential, and he is just 19. Some think he has more upside than Cespedes, but Soler is at least two or three years away from being big league ready.

                  Cespedes is ready right now.

Cespedes is in the process of gaining temporary citizenship in the Dominican Republic, and then he must petition for free agency. After that happens, look for Miami to make an offer for the outfielder. With Cespedes, it will come down to dollars. A few weeks ago, it was believed Cespedes was seeking an eight-year deal at more than $60 million. That's too high. If the price tag is in the $40 million range, then I'd expect the Marlins to be in the hunt.

This doesn't mean the Marlins have closed the door on Soler.

                    • Well why don't ya wait to see what they do now with the new ball park because that seems to have alters some of their other methods.

                      • Bigger fan of us going after Soler than Cespedes. Cost and age are main concerns. Soler would not be rushed to the majors and would get more seasoning against higher levels of competition before making his debut.

                        • I think I rather give Beltran a 2-3 year deal to play LF, than to overpay for a guy that has not had one AB in the Major Leagues.

Off-course, Beltran is injury prone and I have no idea how much money he is looking for. The max I pay Beltran is the same we gave Heath Bell, but with some extra incentives for play X amount of games and accomplishing several goals.

                            I would rather do neither.

No way. I'm probably the biggest Beltran fan here and I wouldn't give him more than a one year deal.

I agree, but if the choice is Beltran 2/$25 or Cespedes 5/$50, it's pretty easy
