#Yankees, #Tigers and #Marlins have been most interested clubs in Yoenis Cespedes, according to an exec familiar with international market.

          • I can understand our interest in Cespedes but at $50mil I wouldn't want to take the gamble on him. Even at $30mil I can see him being run out of town like Maybin.

                  • I think at his price, I'm passing. The only way I pay this guy anything over 50 is if I know for sure that he can put up the numbers. I think he's a bit too over hyped.

                        • Considered among the early favorites to land Cuban defector Yoenis Cespedes, the Marlins’ optimism about signing him may be waning. President of Baseball Operations Larry Beinfest on Monday said the club remains interested, but once he’s declared a free agent the bidding could get ridiculous.

According to a source who spoke with the Marlins on Monday, they’re concerned most of their money will be allocated by the time Cespedes establishes residence in the Dominican Republic and can begin negotiating with clubs. He’s had impressive, private workouts for numerous clubs, including the Yankees and Cubs, who are expected to make aggressive offers.

The buzz around Cespedes according to an American League front office source is that Adam Katz, his agent, is marketing him like an established big league outfielder. Some believe he could command twice as much as fellow Cuban right-hander Aroldis Chapman, who got from the Reds ($30.25 million). They Marlins won’t stay around long if/when it becomes apparent Cespedes will leave Chapman’s deal in the dust…

The Marlins also have been linked to Jorge Soler, another Cuban defector who at 19 has Mike Stanton-like power. The Marlins were among eight teams that attended a Soler workout in the Dominican last week. It doesn’t appear he would be any easier to sign than Cespedes. The Winter Meetings scuttlebutt on Soler is his price tag could exceed $20 million, which by most accounts would be too rich for the Marlins considering the level of projection involved.

                          • Good. I was never comfortable with them investing that much money into Cespedes to begin with.

                            • I think these media projections are way to high and being floated by the agent as no MLB team is going to pay $60 million for a completely unproven guy, ala Boras doing the same thing and spouting out he was going to get $30 for Strasburg (and got $15).

I think he beats Chapman, but it'll be $35-40 for 6.

And I still think that is to high.
