Well, Theo's been trying to improve the Red Sox defense for awhile now, and he tried to go all out at it last season. Crawford's excellent defensively.

But yeah, it's still insane.
But he'll be playing LF in Fenway. That removes defense from the equation.
Yankees could make that argument with "death valley" in the gaps, Tigers or Angels too, not the Red Sox.

LeBatard is jokingly ripping Simmons and it's amusing.

Hey, look, @sportsguy, the red sox are doing what the heat did

I need to see who the long relievers are before I can say the red sox will win. Ted Williams would never have done what Crawford just did
I actually think I'm more surprised by this contract that Werth. At least Werth was a bad contract from a dumb/desperate team. This is a bad contract from what I thought was a very smart team.
Unless they're planning on going with a $200 million + payroll, I just don't see how this is a smart move. They'll have approximately $50 mil committed to Crawford and A-Gon alone.

It'll be about $75 mil between those two plus Lackey and Beckett.
I'd say Lackey and Beckett make this still only the 3rd worst contract on their team.
They're paying a guy who's never given you a .500 slugging percentage, or a .380 OBP, and only given you an OPS of .850 or better once (.851 - in 2010) and you just made him the highest paid OF in baseball history!
