  • Well, Theo's been trying to improve the Red Sox defense for awhile now, and he tried to go all out at it last season. Crawford's excellent defensively.

    But yeah, it's still insane.

But he'll be playing LF in Fenway. That removes defense from the equation.

Yankees could make that argument with "death valley" in the gaps, Tigers or Angels too, not the Red Sox.

      • LeBatard is jokingly ripping Simmons and it's amusing.

Hey, look, @sportsguy, the red sox are doing what the heat did

I need to see who the long relievers are before I can say the red sox will win. Ted Williams would never have done what Crawford just did

        • I actually think I'm more surprised by this contract that Werth. At least Werth was a bad contract from a dumb/desperate team. This is a bad contract from what I thought was a very smart team.

Unless they're planning on going with a $200 million + payroll, I just don't see how this is a smart move. They'll have approximately $50 mil committed to Crawford and A-Gon alone.

Wouldn't it be better if he played right?

In Fenway? Probably, but his arm isn't as good as Drew's.

It'll be about $75 mil between those two plus Lackey and Beckett.

I'd say Lackey and Beckett make this still only the 3rd worst contract on their team.

Lackey and Beckett are still tradable contracts. That has to count for something.

                      • Lackey is hard to get rid of tho.. He is on the downside of his career but im sure someone would be dumb enough to give some thing good for him...

I wish the same could be said about Burnett

Didn't Manny get a bigger contract?

Red Sox nation hates Lackey too.. He does suck but they were all excited when they got him.. He is good for 4 innings then he implodes.
