At the time of the Ozuna and Yelich trades, I disliked the former deal. Ozuna was simply a great guy in addition to having just had a phenomenal season. I saw nothing whatever in Alcantara, Sierra, Gallen and Castano. I thought Flanagan or Weaver and Carson Kelly were what we should have been after. I was both wrong and right. Gallen and Castano (yep, I believe in a small sample when it's most recent and spinning in the right direction) have been beyond my expectations. Sierra is ordinary and I still don't know what to make of Alcantara. On the other hand, look at those guys I coveted.
The Yelich deal was wonderful in my eyes. Didn't care for Brinson (and neither did MILW after his brief call up with them) but loved Harrison and liked both Diaz and Yamamoto. At the time, I felt confident that Harrison alone would make us forget about Yelich. I am frankly a little negative on Yamamoto now that he has reached the show and Harrison? I choose to hold out hope. Yelich? You're a wizard if you saw his blossoming with the Brewers. All the sudden, instead of hitting grounders all the time (many, many into double plays) he started lifting fly balls for doubles and homers. Where did that come from??
The Stanton trade I loved was never made and the offer came at the deadline before he got the ridiculous contract. Stanton, Cishek and Ruggiano for G Cole, S Marte and Jameson Taillon. Still have no idea how the Marlins didn't sign up for that. Once the contract was signed, he had to be moved. My only problem with handing over $30M to Yanks was that it was actualy more like $50M due to Castro's salary for two years. The team should have found a third team to take Castro before the deal with NY was signed.
