  • Jazz Chisholm strikes me as similar developmentally to Isan Diaz. Weak results at first look at AA ... mostly contact problems/plate discipline. Thing is that Chisolm is faster, more gifted defensively, and has even more power. And as someone pointed out, much improved in his last 30 games.

Phase 1 of the rebuild is over and now they need to reinvest some of the money in 2 big time free agents. I don’t think the bats will be ready to compete next year but 2021 I think we are a legit contender
I think I mentioned this in MiLB thread during your bar times, but if I'm Osiris, I'm begging to play some 3B next year knowing Diaz and Jazz are blocking me, and Devers and Nunez aren't going to bash for a corner. Top 3B in the system if they move him there as it's what, Nelson? Like Osiris wants to play CF with the 10 other good OF in the system?

They definitely are 4+ wins back in 2020 trading these pitchers. 2021 is the soft target, and 2022 is circled in red permanent marker for the franchise.

I'd still spend money in 2020 as the 2021 class is rough, and use 2022 FA to put you over the top if needed.

All in on Rendon/Cole still, and they can really just sign 1-2 year guys around them and get to 2022 with their prospects.

Interestingly, if they sign Rendon, why not trade Anderson for a SP? I think that's the best idea. Someone would love Anderson for 4 years and has pitching to spare which solves the trading Gallen problem (if that's even a problem). I feel confident Bleday-Monte/VVM-Sanchez, and Cooper-Ramirez-Brinson-Sierra-Miller-Cheap Walkeresque FA, can cover the OF

You LOVE Jazz Lee. You LOVED him last year.

He's young for his level and his BABIP sucks in 2019 for a quick dude (.261). Look at Monte's K rate this year. It's gone down 7% (even if still not good). Diaz K rate is down 7% and is now pretty good. Players get better as they age.

Give Jazz 7% less whiffs when he is 23 and the .50-70 (or more) BABIP points the universe owes him as a fast dude, and we all are high fiving you at Schooners Wharf and I just ordered 100 conch fritters I am not sharing. I tried to get local for you there.

      • I don't see how you could argue that Schales is better than Jesus Sanchez. Brian Schales .658 OPS in 1924 ABs in the minors.

good grief. Nobody argued that Schales was better than Sanchez. In response to a statement that turning Schales into Sanchez was insanely good, I merely pointed out the fact that Sanchez was doing no better than Schales did at the same age and at the same level and in the same league.

Send me an email address, Lou, and I'll send you one of my ebooks, Free Fish Friday. Lots of conch chat.

        • Jesus Sanchez was 20-21 at AA, Brian Schales was 22-23 at AA.

Sanchez was 21 for this entire AA season (since last February). Schales was 22 all of last season in AA. (Actually, coming from the Dominican Republic, who the heck knows how old Sanchez is?) Here's hoping that Jesus Sanchez proves to be a super star; though I'd be inclined to place him at Jacksonville instead of NO for at least the rest of this season.

            • just realizing all these guys we've gotten are lefty power bats. Bleday too. It's clear they saw a need there.

              • We definitely have a shot at over 100 losses now too, which means I get to stay on board. Win-win kind of trade deadline.

                • so are we gonna DFA castro and let Isan come up and play or what?

also it would appear brinson is done here in terms of being a long term piece.

                    Precisely.

And we have a brutal schedule down the stretch. I like you, Erick, so I’m rooting for you (kinda).

He’s gonna get at least 300 AB’s to earn a spot.

                    • id be down with a little tank job to end the year. Play the young kids and evaluate what we have. We're not gonna get higher than 3rd pick though.

im not so sure he's going to get another huge opportunity again. I think he will get september and if he doesnt show anything i could see them moving on or just giving him april next year and then if the plate discipline continues to suck just cutting their losses and dealing him for whatever they can get.

rays are weirdly sending trevor richards down to AAA to get stretched out after being moved to the pen. he was moved to the pen like a week ago how is he not stretched out?

Yes. Maybe even don't call him up at all this year (who cares?) and let him really sulk about it the entire offseason as he sees Riddle, Puello, Dean, and H. Ramirez gobble up PA and get paid a MLB salary. Hell, call up Sierra too. Let's see what Brinson shows up in spring training.

I'd then pretty much set him in CF for at least 4 starts a week and regardless of the results, give him until the Super 2 deadline in mid-June and see what has happened and if Monte is ready. They owe it to themselves and prospect status to see if he is a super post hype production candidate. And if he still sucks after all that, trade his ass to Baltimore for their 40th best prospect and maybe they get lucky.

I think that's the question, or call him up 15 days in next year and get a year of service time?

                        • I don't know if it sets a good precedent to keep Diaz down. Dude's been ready for at least the past 2 months.

                          • I’ve read that they’ll play Castro at 3B and Anderson in RF when Diaz comes up, which should be soon.

that's what i think they will end up doing. makes sense. They can't keep Diaz down the rest of the year. Im generally for keeping guys down as long as possible but that would just be wrong to do to him.

good lord that was an awful twins debut for dyson there.

how is it august 1 and im just realizing neil walker is a switch hitter? Ive also watched him play with the pirates all those years. Had no idea he could hit righty as well.
