  • I think the biggest thing with these deals are they aren't for guys years and years away. This isn't trading Stanton to the Yankees for Guzman and Devers...

These guys acquired today are legitimate 2021 options. That's exciting.

I wouldn't mind. The team definitely needs to beef up the bench down after it finalizes what that starting lineup it wants to have moving forward (again, 2021 is the time we start figuring that out).

The good thing about that is a bench can be figured out at an affordable rate in free agency. That isn't an urgent issue. The team has FINALLY started addressing the urgent problems that have been discussed, which was a lack of legitimate hitting prospects to match the pitching depth. I don't remember another time in team history that they've this thoroughly addressed the long term issues of the franchise.

Sure don't know about Jesus Sanchez ... he hasn't done much at all. Lofty scouting report with little to show for it.

        1. M. Harrison - CF
        2. I. Diaz - 2B
        3. JJ Bleday - RF
        4. Cooper/L. Diaz - 1B
        5. Jazz - SS
        6. J. Alfaro - C
        7. J. Sanchez - LF
        8. B. Anderson - 3B

        Rotation

        1. Cole (Make this happen) 2. Caleb 3. Sixto 4. Cabrera 5. Sandy/Pablo/Yamamoto/Neidert
I'd move around the batting order, but agree with the players. I'd flip Bleday and Sanchez corners also. I'd also put Pablo 4 and Cabrera/Sandy 5. Pablo is real good. I wouldn't chuck him in with those guys. Sandy/Cabrera still could be relievers, even if good ones.

Bench of Cooper/Diaz, VVM, a TBD 2B/SS until Devers is ready in a few, and random stick (Brinson, Dean, Ramirez are top internal candidates today, with Scott coming down pipes)

Guzman, Elisier, and Sandy/Cabrera headlining pen.

        Love it.

        • I'm higher on Cabrera than you lou, we'll see, I think the kid is special. I agree Pablo would be the odds on favorite, from that group I mentioned.

          • I got a fever though, and the only prescription is more bullpen lefties

You do realize he's 21 years old in AAA right? He got super fast tracked by the Rays. Even when he was too old for a level he was performing.

If he spends 3 more years growing in the minors he'll still be coming up at a reasonable age of 24, which is shouldn't take that long to get ready anyway.

Legitimately Sanchez should have not been called up to AAA this year. He was getting better in AA. Personally I'd put him back in AA a bit to end this season.

The future starting rotation has so many possibilities though. I still think Caleb Smith should be traded for more future pieces...but Sanchez as a hopeful ace, Neidert, Yamamoto, Cabrera, with Lopez and Alcantara at the bottom is a hell of a rotation to bank on.
Well they need a 1B/Corner OF RHB as LF/RF/1B are all LHB so Cooper is fave right now. Urena will bring a decent package IF traded and no clue what they do with Caleb Smith

Not going to argue, but in a perfect world, Cole, Caleb, Sixto, Pablo, and Cabrera, with Sandy somewhere, with Yamamoto optionable in 2021, Neidert optionable in 21/22, and Garret and Rogers behind that is awesome. Add in a top 5 pick that's a SP in 2020 draft.

I have an idea about Caleb.

                  Do nothing and keep him.

Urena can go for bullpen lefties in the offseason.

                  • I'm less inclined to deal Caleb now that Gallen is gone. I think he'll be a good contrast to the fireballing righties we've got coming in the minors.

                    • Edward Cabrera is following a similar trajectory that Luis Castillo went through in the minors with us (Castillo had better numbers, but Cabrera is younger). Both seem to get typecast a lot as a future reliever but have high upside. I think the difference is prospect evaluators are picking up on Cabrera's potential much faster than they did with Castillo. I wouldn't be surprised if Cabrera follows a similar trajectory in his career, which would be incredible and something we should've trusted Castillo to do.

Agreed just saying u have options with Caleb and Urena. Trade them for more stuff and then sign a FA SP or keep 1 of them

Team is in a great position with Caleb as I mentioned before. He's making minimum, he's in the years of his career that are considered MLB prime, and he isn't even arbitration eligible until after next year.

The Marlins absolutely don't have to do anything with him. The only risk is him regressing and the team missing out on trading him at his highest value...but if teams weren't offering for Smith the kind of deal they got for Gallen, then there really was no reason to let him go.

That said, I really do feel the pitching depth is growing to have guys who can be real good. I think trading Smith would end up being the right move long term.

                            What more do we want?

                            Longterm

                            Alfaro, Banfield
Cooper, L. Diaz (conversions of Pompey, Misner, etc.)
                            Diaz, Devers, Salas, maybe Osiris
Jazz, Devers, Nunez, Salas, maybe Osiris
                            Anderson, maybe Osiris
Monte, VVM, Scott, Misner, Brinson, Sierra, maybe Osiris
                            Bleday, Sanchez, Dean, H. Ramirez

Sixto, Pablo, Cabrera, Sandy, Neidert, Yamamoto, Fitterer
                            Caleb, Rogers, Garrett, Stewart

Guzman, Holloway, Steckenrider, Elisier, Brice, Brigham, Palacios, Mejia, Soriano
                            Garcia, Quijada

2020 Top 5 pick and early competitive/early 2nd rounder minimum

$40-50 million to spend in order to have a respectable bottom 5 payroll over the course of 4+ seasons.

Sure, trade Urena for some bullpen lefties. There is nothing else left to do here besides draft well and don't fuck up the free agent signings.

This can likely be cut in half easy, as I'm not accounting for Garrett, Rogers, Holloway, etc. intentionally to make a point about how much money they don't have to spend to field a team.

We should all be super-pissed if they don't sign Cole/Rendon for $30+ million a year as they can absolutely afford it and trade whoever above makes the most sense as a result. Those could be high-impact teams if the prospects are real.
