Good luck dying on this hill. We have seen everything we have need to see to know where this is going.

The four of them need 20+ cumulative WAR their club controlled years to move from it being Chernobyl to just bad. 25 is probably a fair breakeven at the time of trade, and if he keeps playing like 2018-now, 35+ will be needed for a breakeven. Breakeven. Not win. Breakeven.

Currently, they are in a negative WAR situation because of Brinson. Diaz looks good, Monte seems to be improving, Brinson is smashing AAA again, and Yamamoto may cut it as a back of the rotation starter, but this is asking a lot even with some hope. It's no offense to them, but they traded a guy whose going to be a top 5 player in baseball for those cheap seasons.

It's just not going to end well unless someone turns into an Uggla/Willingham and they get 1-2 Cody Ross contributors after that. Then, maybe we consider it a regrettable push.
I’ll go ahead and be perfectly fine with dying on the hill of not being absurdly hyperbolic and calling something the worst trade in history before seeing 75% of the return play in the big leagues

    • marlins now have the 3rd best rotation ERA in the entire league, just barely ahead of the Astros now. Sixto Sanchez is still in the minors, Gallen has made one start, and we also have Garrett, Rogers, Cabrera, etc. This team is going to have a wide window to be able to contend if they can get the hitting up to speed with how many different cost controlled good starting pitchers they will have for the next 5-7 years.

We are also 20-15 in the last 35 games, and would need to go 13-73 to reach maddawgs prediction for us to be the worst team in major league history. Depending on how aggressive we are in free agency wild card contention is definitely a possibility next season.

You just have to bring that up every other post don't you?

          • I was out of town this weekend so I might have missed an update, but wasn’t Caleb smith supposed to make a rehab start somewhere in the minors this weekend?

Ok cool, just wanted to make sure there was no setback. I saw frisaro saying that they are going to be extra cautious with both him and Pablo

They aren't rushing Smith or Pablo-no point when u got solid arms up and they are on an innings limit anyways. Any "minor" issue and they are gonna be shut down

                  • alrighty, caleb smith is ready after the briefest of rust was brushed off. Gave up leadoff HR on second pitch, struck out next 8 batters he faced.

that tied the Southern league record for most consecutive K's, and apparently all of them were swinging. I think his hips better.

he definitely seems like the most likely guy out of the current mix outside of Elieser. Plus his changeup could be pretty deadly out of the bullpen facing guys only 1 time through the order
