for the life of me i dont understand why the marlins, and many teams in baseball for that matter, fall in love with these absolutely terrible players like Herrera this year and yadiel rivera last year. Neither has any business being on a major league roster and yet guys like this continually stay on rosters despite everyone knowing they are horrendous.

hernandez's offspeed stuff looks sharp as hell tonight. Im assuming that run was unearned because of whatever granderson was doing in LF, right?

His FIP in the mid 4's has come down significantly since may, and he is still posting elite hard hit %. Your argument is absurd.

The hard hit #s are the only stat you have because his other peripherals are horrid. Everything points to him being destined for the pen except this one thing you have latched onto(while you ignore that every one similar to him in that stat is...a reliever, making your entire point moot).
I didn't arbitrarily remove a few good starts, I just ignored the only 3 starts that were good. The rest were bad. There is a difference.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."

Sandy is 10th in the league in hard hit percentage, the names in front of him on the list- Strasburg, Bundy, Eduardo Rodriguez, Syndergaard, Darvish, Zach Wheeer, Maeda, Blake Snell, and he is right in front of Chirinos from the rays who is having a great year. He is 13th in the league at generating soft contact as well. The names in front of him on that list? Maeda, Flaherty, Berrios, Kikuchi, Rodriguez, Degrom, Giolito, Woodruff, Nova, Chirinos, Porcello, Syndergaard, and then Alcantara, right in front of stephen strasburg. This idea that the guy in that company, who has a FIP that has now dropped a lot over the last month, and a mid 3's era, is a ceiling of a number 5, is just an unfathomably dumb statement.

Feel free to educate yourself on something. I was talking about his place on that list among qualified starters. So ya, im gonna go ahead and say that the guy generating elite contact rates and throwing a mid 3 era at age 23 is probably more than a #5 ceiling.
But please do keep purposely skeing stats in a way to fit your opinion, that one this morning where you said he gave up 4 runs last night and casually left out that 3 of them were unearned was pretty impressive selective stat picking.

He's also had 6 starts where he's gone at least 5 innings and given up 1 ER or less, which is pretty fucking impressive from a guy who still clearly has control issues. That would indicate, along with his hard and soft hit percentages, that despite you saying that he only has 1 pitch, his stuff actually is pretty fucking good.

He's also in the top 10 of HR's per fly ball, another indication that his plus stuff (no matter how many times you want to say doesnt exist) helps him tremendously in avoiding hard contact and allows him to overcome his suspect control right now. IF he develops more control or starts generating more swings and misses, he is at least a #3 with the potential to be more if he improves BOTH his control and his swing and miss rate. Given that he is 23 and in his first full big league season and not a finished product, he likely will improve in one or both as time goes on and he develops more. He is a #3 guy with a ceiling to be a #2.Last edited by fish16; 06-11-2019, 08:16 PM.

holy hell that uggla walk off grand slam was 11 years ago already? That does not feel like 11 years. Was that the game andrew miller threw one of his rare gems in a marlins uniform?

answer after checking- yes it was.

its been bothering me trying to figure out who elieser looks like because he looks so familiar and it finally came to me- he looks very similar both in appearance and delivery to the artist formerly known as leo nunez (or juan carlos oviedo)
