  • We knew what we were getting with Alfaro. That deal was all about Sixto.

But, yeah, Wallach has been better on both sides of the ball.

    • I think you still give Alfaro the bulk of the time there because you need to see what he's capable of, but Wallach no longer looks like a slouch. That's a big plus.

I hadn't watched any non-Caleb starts before this streak, but watched last night. Fun game. Seeing them come back from down 3-0 was awesome. They're playing like a real team. Still probably 60-ish wins this year, but you're starting to see some hope on the horizon, coupled with what the kids are doing in the minors.

For one, I am much impressed with Wallach's improved approach at the plate. In fact, i'd like to see him get the majority of catching opportunities. Alfaro is mostly slapstick in the batter's box, and not in a good way. Most of his at bats are a complete waste of time ... and an out ... and not improving at all.
He is much better. Kudos for them for sticking with him. But let's not get ahead of ourselves with an extremely small sample size. Alfaro can be tremendous defensively (2018) and is probably going to hit 25+ HR a few years in his career when he punishes a few mistakes. What we want is a floor of an elite defensive catcher who is going to slug .400.

Alfaro is playing right now as a 1.5 WAR player, and that's with the huge drop in defensive value from 2018. He's frustrating, but I'm not going to argue with this if he is only a .230/.300/.400 hitter. When the defense spikes back up (it should?), a 2+ WAR catcher making peanuts is a good thing.

They should play Wallach an extra day a week, he's earned it, and maybe throw one of them out at 1B for a game a week to get them both more PA. I'd rather give these guys PA than Prado, Granderson, O'Brien, Galloway, etc. It's time to cut bait with all of those guys completely. They tried. Who cares. Let the kids play.

        Alfaro, Wallach
        Walker (Cooper, Dean, Alfaro/Wallach)
        Castro (Rojas)
        Rojas, Riddle (Herrera)
        Anderson, Berti
        Dean
        H. Ramirez, Herrera
        Cooper (Anderson)

That's what I would hope for right now. Call back up Riddle and let the kids play. See what happens. Brinson can bump someone in another month (as that will deflect his service time in case he becomes anything, plus he needs the time down there).

            • It took DVH about 10 minutes to explain what happened on that Harold Ramirez dribbler.

I wish they'd let Dean hit.

This is the longest he's made it without getting injured with us, right? Been on the team almost a year and a half and I still really have no idea what kind of player he is.
