    Agree.

They can trade Chen, Romo, Castro, Prado, Walker, and Granderson, and if they get a good deal (as they have 2+ years of service time at minimum), Conley, Steckenrider, Urena, and Rojas. I mean that is a shitload of guys they can move this summer.

Everyone else stays. Everyone. Who knows what's going to happen.

Smith and Pablo turning into a 2/3, or 3/3, is a best case scenario.
    I agree with this too.

I would only deal Smith if they could get a top 50 hitting prospect and another borderline top 100 hitting guy. Like Yordan Alvarez + another guy. Just saying they might be smart to shop some of these arms for impact bats.

youre not going to get anything of significance for Romo, Walker, Granderson, Prado, or Castro if you can get any prospect at all.

Matt Kemp got released by the reds. He's nothing special but id take a flier on him and see if we can get some OF production out of him for the rest of the year and possibly deal him for a minor prospect at the deadline. We are desperate for actual ML quality bats in the OF.
I mean for years we didn't have pitching. Now that we have one starter doing well, you want to trade him immediately because of "depth" with guys that either have done "ok" up here or haven't been up at the MLB level at all?

Too early to trade him unless you're absolutely blown away (the Yelich deal doesn't incite confidence in their evaluating of "blown away").

The skull is real thick on that kid. We are wasting our time explaining why Caleb Smith should not be traded 18 months after a fire sale.

I'd trade Caleb Smith, if it meant getting a proven young major league bat back. No team is going to make that trade, though.

Which is exactly why it’s a ridiculous concept right now.

not that thick, i acknowledge your viewpoint and at no point said he should 100% be traded. All i essentially said was that i'd be ok with them using him as an asset if a team is willing to give us a big overpay with hitting prospects in an effort to rebuild the hitting depth in the system. shouldnt be all that controversial for a team with nothing in terms of hitting prospects, relative depth over the next several years with SP prospects, and that is nowhere near contention.

I can’t wait to see what we get for Prado, Castro, Romo, Walker, and Granderson.
Maybe all 5 put together have the trade value of a ham sandwich.

Agreed. Maybe we get a maybin type return for Castro and romo and maybe maybe maybe walker but that’s it

I wouldn’t mind keeping Romo around to be honest. We’re going to get an irrelevant return, but he’s still a competent reliever. Also seems like a good veteran to have in the clubhouse. The time to sell on relievers was last year.

They got Nick Anderson for Brian Schales in an irrelevant transaction. You never know. Looks like a pretty good deal right now, even if Schales is hitting a little.

They need to keep swinging for the fences in low-end transactions like this, which is likely what they can trade the "veteran" core for. You're going to eventually get a Cody Ross, Yonder Alonson, Derek Dietrich, Willians Astudillo, Justin Bour, Kike Hernandez, etc. They don't need world beaters. If they can turn the veteran core into a few relievers and good bench/platoon options, it's actually a great series of hypothetical trades.

We'll see. Castro has a terrible BABIP, Urena, Steckenrider, Conley, and Romo should all be better, Walker is pretty much Walker. They are going to get some alright stuff when things normalize and that's fine.

We should trade Caleb Smith. He’s too good to be a Marlin.

Not understanding Berti on the team, playing 3b. Basically, management has selected Berti as opposed to Ramirez or Dean, who offer offense to a run-starved club. Either one could play RF instead of Anderson, though Ramirez would evidently be a better defensive option. Also, not getting O'Brien's return.

On a brighter note, Cabrera is emerging as a really strong prospect now that he has found the strike zone. E. Hernandez is flashing huge improvement over last year, making sense of a Rule 5 pick that was a little hard to credit at first.

Maybe Hernandez hasn’t improved at all. Maybe he’s at the level he’s supposed to be at and you can’t put numbers in context.

Yeah I thought Hernandez held his own pretty well in the majors last year considering he hadn't pitched above A-Ball. Now he's at a level that fits his development and we're seeing great results, good to see.
