Are you guys still feeling good about our pitching being too good to not win more than 60 games? Lol

Guys I've been on Vacation in California, went to a lot of the stadiums out there, Anaheim, Dodger Stadium, Oracle (formerly ATT) Park. My love for baseball's at an all-time high, but coming home to this Marlins game makes me realize how sweet my vacation from the Marlins was as well.

I am shocked that he is shocked. Who knew jumping at the first offer for Yelich and getting a bunch of guys who were widly known to have pretty serious issues offensively and trading Ozuna for a reliever, 5th outfielder, and AAAA arm just so you could get their money off the books and taking a lesser package for Stanton because you wouldn't eat any money would not be well received?
          Nailed it.

and he's disappointed in the fanbase....because we aren't flocking to watch a 9-23 disaster, and an only so-so farm system after you traded away back to back league MVP's. This draft in June better be spectacular, amd of course we won't really know that for several years.

But I think they have to at this point discuss adding payroll next year - the austerity deal is turning off what little fanbase you have left. People, rightfully so, look at the Marlins and laugh. If this turns out to be no better than a 75-80 win team by 2021, you'll be forced into free agency just to put a somewhat competitive team on the field, and have to overpay spectacularly in order to convince topflight free agents to come here

Pablo Lopez now has a lower FIP than Caleb smith. If those 2 are legit #2/3 guys that is a huge find moving forward. Especially considering all we gave up to get them was David Phelps and Michael King.

Am I the only one who WOULDN'T be opposed to trading Smith if he keeps up his good production and the Marlins get a big offer? He does turn 28 in two months.

Sandy Alcantara has no business being in an MLB rotation. He has one halfway decent pitch.

How the Marlins looked at all the arms in the Cardinals system and demanded Alcantara is mind boggling.

Alcantara needs to go down for Gallen soonish. Or begin the move to the bullpen. id be fine with that if he is more effective there and it improves his K rate given our SP depth.

Doubt you're the only one but I don't agree. He doesn't have a ton of mileage on his arm due to past injuries and has legit ace stuff. Ride out his prime years. You got him for nothing.

                      For comparison sake:
                      Caleb Smith professional innings: 600.1
                      Sandy Alcantara professional innings: 588.1

Just because he's 28 doesn't mean he's about to decline.

Id do it just because of our seemingly solid SP depth in the next few years if we can get 2 really good hitting prospects. Something like Yordan Alvarez and another lesser hitting prospect. I wouldnt force a trade for him but just monitor the market and try to get good value and rebuild the hitting prospect base like we did the last few years with the pitching.

If you deal Urena for a decent bat and deal Smith for say Alvarez and another Isan Diaz level prospect you would drastically help our hitting prospect depth while still having Alcantara, Lopez, Sixto, gallen, Richards, Halloway, Braton Garret, rogers, cabrera, stewart, guzman, yamamoto, and any FA additions. Then youd have this year and next years draft to attack hitting early in the draft and ideally by 2021 2022 you have a really nice all around young team. Theyd have to do it right but we certainly have a path to contention with a good all around team in the next few years.

The PR and leadership issues at the top of the organization are a competely different discussion however. I love Denbo's vision for the organization and i was willing to give him a year, but the continued issues with how he treats people doesnt seem sustainable.

Speaking of which, if you've got an Athletic subscription, there's a new long-form story from Ken Rosenthal about how Denbo treats people. Feel like this is the fifth story or so on this topic, which is not a good sign.

For Urena, if the cubs have a SP injury i wouldnt mind swapping Urena for Schwarber. Maybe we have to add in a bullpen arm. Ive been saying for years Schwarber will be a solid overall player if he's allowed to ideally DH but if not then play 1b. Both have 2 years of arbitration left and the Cubs have had this weird surplus mix of hitters. They also dont have much of a farm system anymore to acquire help at the deadline. Schwarber would give us another potential option that we could explore as a long term 1b for a few years with a high upside and gives us pure power we dont have anywhere in the system.

Ya that's why i brought it up. I generally focus on team building and mostly on the field shit but this is a repeated pattern and while I think him and Jeter have us on a path towards rebuilding this franchise in terms of better players and a more winning culture, but i think they would benefit greatly from a different face and president of baseball OPs type guy that they can portray as the leader at least for the next few years. I think Jeter knows what he is talking about in terms of the way he is approaching building the team but the PR blunders are getting to be just too much for even me to handle. Maybe he is just going to sound bad every time he talks until the rebuild starts producing wins, but my god dude it seems like way too often you come off the wrong way.

Also, depending on what he would actually say given that I have no idea about him, but I think the franchise would benefit from Sherman being around a lot more and being a more open sort of face of the franchise.

That Denbo story is more awesome PR for the team. It's also more proof that Mike Hill is a complete figurehead PR mouthpiece at this point. What other FO guy, who is not technically the head decision maker (aka GM) for any team gets this type of article written about him?

They actually kind of explained in the article Hill's role and it makes sense if you operate under the assumption that he will be around through next year regardless because thats when his contract expires. They said that because neither Denbo nor Greenlee nor Jeter's experience comes in the form of transactional work, Hill actually does a lot of the work in that department or at least helps a lot there.

I dont have a real problem with the overall direction of the team. Obviously individual moves wont always turn out positive but the overall direction is positive. They have just bundled a real opportunity to buy goodwill at the beginning of the ownership period with every PR mishap and bundle. Maybe any situation where we took the necessary step of dealing off some guys and rebuilding the team would have resulted in the anger towards the team, but its like every other week its something else from a PR standpoint where its just like come on and cut this shit out already.
