    • At what point do they send Brinson down to the minors? He is beyond pathetic.

      • Ya its gotta be soon. He needs to go down and Dean should 100% be up here and Ramirez should be as well. Also seriously what would herrera have to do to not have a spot on the team?

Should've been last year. Should've been the beginning of this year. I don't care what his spring numbers are - they were great last year too. Send him down, let him (hopefully) rake for a month and then maybe bring him back up.

It hurts every time I hear Yelich brought up anywhere, especially with the 18 million MLB notifications they send nowadays.

thank you....7 shutouts in 25 games = 45 shutouts over the year....I'm Mr Cynical according to some and even I think that would be hard to accomplish

I've been thinking about this too, but there doesn't seem to be a real reason to do it mid-season. This year doesn't matter (as many have already stated) as far as W-L record, and it's the last year of his contract anyway. The only reason I could see them getting rid of him is if the players quit on him/revolt, or if as tj has said numerous times, the idea is to insert Trey Hillman as manager, they may want him to take the reigns for the rest of the season at some point as a bit of a tryout period (even though he has managed before).

I used to feel this way, but I'm actually pulling the other way. Losing at this rate is pretty terrible for morale and for player confidence. Things Mattingly has done (like batting Brinson all over the lineup except for where he should have been hitting to start the year) are indefensible and some of his bullpen usage is highly questionable. That stuff ruins development. Also, as bad as fan relations are, you aren't winning anyone over going 8-20. 8-20 gets people fired. To the casual fan, I'd think leaving Mattingly in the dugout sends a signal that they TRULY don't give a fuck.

If they feel they have the next manager on staff in either Hillman or Posada (or even Wallach), it doesn't hurt to have them take the reigns early and get used to things. If they feel that they're going to conduct a wide search for Donnie's replacement, it STILL doesn't hurt to have a former manager who's already getting a paycheck (Hillman or even Fredi, because why not?) take over to get a different voice and give the appearance of trying to win.

One more loss and Mattingly has the most losses of any manager in Marlins history.

It might also light a fire under the players - show them losing isn't acceptable (of course, conversely, allowing Brinson to flail around endlessly says the opposite). Not that there are high expectations, but it's a mentality thing like you said.

2 years AGO. Plan has been to let him play out his contract as 2019 is whatever and dont wanna pay him to sit home but I could see Trey Hillman get a look before the end of the year to see how he does. Plan is let Mattingly finish year and then interview guys(Tino/Posada/Kevin Long/Eric Duncan with Hillman as the Fave) but they prefer Trey Hillman(depending on player responses which so far have been very positive)

Mattingly wont be here in 2020 unless like in advisor role or something

                      • Brinson was finally sent down, Cooper activated.

I didn't think they'd ever send him down.

                        • Can Brinson hit .250 in AAA? We'll see. Galloway in CF will be an upgrade both offensively and defensively.

Brinson already proved in the past that he can hit in AAA. That isn't the problem. The concern is that his final ceiling is Camerob Maybin.

Good. Let him go down and show he's capable of hitting AAA. Get him some confidence again and bring him up after a few weeks of raking if he's able to.
