The overachieving of Alfaro, Prado, and probably Rojas will likely be negated by Anderson and Castro creeping up. Yes, the rest of the position players are a disaster, but that is 6 pretty solid starting position players. Can't believe Prado is hitting.
This is the key though:
Smith 2.63 FIP
Lopez 2.81
Sandy 3.36
Urena 3.79
Richards 4.39
That's not losing 100 if all of that holds up. The bullpen is good. Conley (good FIP) and Steckenrider (good WHIP) are going to settle down and no one else has major red flags.
They just really need some outfielders and all of a sudden, they look like a respectable 90+ loss "bad" team.

I wanted to DFA him to make room for some kids to give them opportunities, but that looks like a clear mistake as Herrea, O'Brien, Riddle, and Brinson are just horrible. Good for Prado though. Help the team get to August.
I mean at what point do you just play Wallach or Alfaro at 1B and shift Walker or Anderson to a corner OF? Wallach at least is doing something?
Granderson, Brinson, Herrera, O'Brien, Riddle, and Dean have a -2.2 WAR in 293 PA. I mean, that is collectively pacing worst player in the majors over a full season. That's Chris Davis is an upgrade territory.

Well, the last few games, Berti has been playing 3rd and Anderson has been in RF, so it seems like we're seeing a shift. Brinson just needs to be sent down yesterday. I don't know why they keep doing this with him. Just to save face? With him being the headliner of the Yelich deal? Send him down, let him bash AAA pitching (assuming he does), and bring him back up in a month or so. Bring up that Ramirez guy who's been hitting well.....though I guess he's not on the 40 man, so that would require a move. I'm sure there's a no-name guy we could get rid of?

I still think this year’s team sucks, but I also do believe they could be good if they add some quality free agent hitters. Not sure if I’m confident in this front office’s ability to do that, but that’s another story. For what it’s worth, having to spend on bats is a better idea than having to spend on pitching.

Curious stats linking Brinson to Alfaro. Same # of at bats with identical stats of 2 walks and 26 whiffs. 4 extra base hits for Alfaro (all HR) 5 extra base hits for Brinson (all doubles). Basically, the entire difference between the two is percentage of hits off balls in play ... a few more balls have bounced through the IF for Alfaro. (Not defending Brinson here ... just putting Alfaro in a realistic perspective.)Last edited by Lee Stone; 04-27-2019, 11:13 AM.

Why was herrera on the team to start the year, why is he still on the team, and why the fuck is he starting tonight. We dont have a ton of outfield options, but it seems like we like choosing some of the worst of them and insist on forcing them into the lineup

Yep, he didn't do much in the last four (eight whiffs), but it was still a mixed sample. Now he's hitting .419 with an OBP over .500 at New Orleans. He has 9 AAA W with only 4 K.
