I do think O'Brien is interesting. If we get anything out of him thats a bonus, but would be cool if we got some sort of platoon guy with power out of him. Wouldnt hold my breath though.

Ortega has also been terrible since a nice start. Alcantara just didnt have it tonight control wise, but the thing with him that impresses me is that his stuff is so electric that he does have the ability to minimize the damage when he cant find the strike zone at times. Gives him a much bigger margin for error than a guy like Richards.

Ortega's overall numbers are bad at this point. Most would agree that his lack of offense will likely preclude a major league career despite other positive attributes. The same is likely true for Brinson and Sierra, who reach base less than virtually any hitters in the majors, including Ortega by a longshot.

Trevor Richards has a history of throwing strikes throughout his minor league career, so there is some chance he can turn things around in that regard. The bases on balls are killing him.

What's interesting about O'Brien is his patience at the plate. On a roster of undisciplined hackers, he is an excellent role model. It would be a shame to platoon him - he hits righties just fine. He has made marked improvement with the bat since joining the Marlin organization and looks comfortable hitting clean-up.

A Realmuto trade thought: to the Angels for OF Jo Adell and ss Luis Vengifo. Marlins would probably have to add a prospect or two.

Definitely what Peter O'Brien has been for 25 mlb at-bats is what he'll be for the rest of his career. He's not a streaky hitter or anything.

O'Brien's streak began about 200 at bats ago - in Jacksonville.

He hit .215 as a 28-year old in Jacksonville. Yeah that's some streak. Overall he hit well under .200 at AA as a 28-year old this year. Yes he did well in New Orleans, but he hit .191 the year before between AA and AAA in 2017.

There's a reason he's 28 and has less than 100 major league at-bats. Maybe he has turned a corner, but like usual Lee you need to let things play out a little bit before making a judgment on a guy.

O’Brien has had a nice stretch, showing power and patience at the plate. Perhaps he’s figured something out but I’m not ready to pencil him in for a spot next year after a good week. Are there any other examples of guys becoming an MLB caliber power hitting 1st baseman at age 28? I guess Bour did at age 27. It’d be cool if he did but all he’s earned so far is the chance to start the rest of the season.

Thats literally not at all what is interesting about him, its what limits his production. You're evaluating him on very limited major league time rather than his entire minor league career. I like him as a potential power bat that we found for cheap, but he is obviously not as good as he's been.

Oh (I had no idea anyone had their laptop broken by a foul ball). Yeah, I honestly can't say I've watched a complete game on TV this whole year - bits and pieces here and there, but not a full one, and not much of one in a few weeks.

Agreed, but if you go look at his numbers his first few minor league careers and you can see he does have very good power. Dont know what happened last year but he does have ability

So did they trade the NL MVP in 2017 and 2018 (Yelich).

He has a commanding lead in WAR over Cain, Rendon, Goldschmidt, Baez, Carpenter.... and Realmuto.

I mentioned this a few weeks ago (Yelich winning the MVP the year after they traded the 2017 NL MVP).

Don't know if this is accurate given the source, but Fish Stripes is saying supposedly they'll use the throwbacks against the Arizona Diamondbacks from July 26-29 in 2019.

If accurate, that could either mean:

1) Uniforms remain the same for 2019 (likely changing 2020, as some have suggested), and they have the throwbacks for those games
2) Uniforms DO change, but aren't a direct copy of the old ones, so they still use throwbacks of the originals for those games.

A FV60 and FV45 prospect probably have around $70 million in surplus value. Realmuto is worth more than that even with only 2 years of control if he is a 4.5 WAR player - let alone coming from catcher.

Marlins need a Gallen, or a Yamamoto and Eveld, added to that deal.
