Indians, Yankees and Mariners are among teams in on Cameron Maybin
Give me some IFA cash and call up Austin Dean.

he's already a fairly better hitter than that. I see him as a long term 3b that will give you 15-20 maybe 25 hr's at his peak and around a .800-.820 OPS annually and average defense.

Completely without any sources or anything, but i see Maybin and Ziegler being dealt tonight before the deadline tomorrw and then tomorrow we work on Dietrich, Barraclough, and everyone else.

Sounds like a very Loria thing. I don't they they are that dumb, but I do think we will see realistic moves for improvement rather than "Rodney."

They really only "need" to trade Barraclough, Ziegler, Dietrich, Castro, and Maybin. 4/5 of those shouldn't be hard, and hopefully someone will bite on Castro's contract if the Marlins pay the rest this year, etc.

      • Brian Anderson reminds me of Conine. I think Anderson has room to develop more power. Really nice guy to have either way.

I don't even think we "have" to trade Dietrich. I think he could still be a valuable piece for us moving forward, you would just think that he would be more valuable a piece to a team competing for the playoffs, but maybe that isn't the case. Castro, Maybin and Prado deals can still probably made for those guys in August. My main gripe will be if they don't deal Barraclough for something of note, that'll be a bummer.

I really want to see what the discussions are like in regards to the trade value of Dietrich. I see him as a great get for a mid level team that is somewhat in wild card contention this year but doesnt want to give up much to make a run this year. Dietrich doesnt get enough credit for his bat given the stats he's put up his entire career. He's around a .800 OPS guy with positional versatility despite not being great at any one position. He's the type of guy id love to keep long term if we were going to compete at any time prior to him becoming a free agent.

He's the type of guy though that, in my opinion, any team missing a complimentary piece could benefit from having. Havent heard much on Oakland, but i could see him being the perfect fit there given the types of guys they like to acquire.

Btw, if anyone is in Atlanta, id highly recommend spending a night visiting the braves new park if you get the opportunity. they did a great job all around with the new stadium, regardless of your views on cities stupidly spending money on tax payer funded stadiums and the fact that Turner field was perfectly fine and not very old. Went to a marlins game there last year and they did a great job. Wish the marlins had their ballpark as a type of model for how to attract non baseball fans to baseball games when they were building the surrounding area of marlins park.

They built a surrounding area to the ballpark?

i was referring mostly to a lack thereof. Braves really did a nice job though of creating somewhat of a nice bar scene right outside/in the ball park. I think the marlins would be really well off by putting some sort of outfield bar in those RF seats rather than just leaving it essentially empty every night. I also hate the clevelander but thats another conversation.

It boggles my mind that MLB hasnt just gone to automated strike zones yet. I simply dont get their hesitancy to just get the calls right and eliminate bitching about balls and strikes.

                      • Well that escalated quickly. Ive had quite a few disagreements with TJFLA but ive actually been convinced that he has some sort of lower level front office connection. I think he's not nearly as plugged in as he thinks he is but I do think he has some sort of connection that gives him some insight into what we are thinking. Also, Keith Law knows his shit but I think him and Bowden are not at all connected to what we are thinking moving towards the deadline, and Law has admitted as much in recent months (leading up to the draft he admitted he didnt know what the new regime was thinking)

Bowden sucked as a GM and I think he sucks as an analyst.

The guys for the marlins i will believe over anyone else if they say they have inside info is obviously Ken Rosenthal, Morosi, Heyman, Joel sherman, and Craig Mish to a lesser extent because I think he has sources but isnt an actual reporter so I think he gets trigger happy with reporting news he probably shouldnt be reporting publicly. Also probably some other New York/Yankees reporters who might have relationships with Jeter/Denbo.

Frisaro is a trash reporter in terms of breaking news and Spencer and Barry Jackson, while I love their work, arent much news breakers when it comes to the marlins. Barry Jackson is probably our best local reporter all around. I hope he's gotten over his ridiculous few month stretch there in the offseason over the marlins moves.

Also, cue the lebatard show reckless speculation sound, but Jim Bowden has to be wearing a toupee for a few years now, right?

                        • Random, but if Oakland is interested in Straily, it would make a ton of sense for us to take a flier on Jorge Mateo given his value is low compared to where it once was and our lack of upper minors MI depth. I think he is at best a dee gordon type but i wouldnt mind that swap.

My understanding is Realmuto is not being traded. No discussions today with Washington and other clubs know the price tag. To this point, no extension has been discussed. Perhaps this offseason.
Seems about right. Washington should be sellers IMO and it seems like they kind of know they arent doing anything this year. Probably makes sense to just sell on their relievers and hope Harper re-signs so they can have an insane future OF of Harper, Robles, and Soto.
