probably because you made a point about us being terrible in the draft in the past and thinking that it will 100% continue by attributing it solely to mike hill when baseball isnt like football or basketball in that the GM doesnt play nearly the role in MLB's draft as they do in other sports.

Yet Lewis Brinson wasn’t called up in mid May.

If anything that helps my point that we are in a better position on the first game of the rebuild because we had talent to deal to acquire more talent quicker than they did. You can say whatever you want about the returns we got and we'll find out in due time how we did, but we have more talent in our system than either of those teams did.

Here is the cubs top 10 right when Epstein got there: Rizzo who Epstein acquired right when he got there, Brett JAckson, Matt Sczur, Chris Carpenter, Trey Mcnutt, Josh Vitters, Rafael Dolis, Jay Jackson, Reggie Golden, and Hayden Simpson. Only 2 of them represented top 100 guys at the time.

Here is the top 10 for the astros at the begining of their rebuild: Cosart, John Singleton, Jon Villar, Mike Folty..., Paul Clemens, Delino Deshields, Tanner Beshue, Brett Oberholtzer, Austin Wates, and Domingo Santana.

My point is that given this is the first game, we are in a better position with more talent in the organization than those teams were, and even more important than that and more important than literally anything else in regards to the future of the organization is that we actually have a coherent plan as to how to build the team as opposed to following the daily mood of moron Loria. Also, Hill has stunk but i also have faith in Denbo as well as some of the other guys we've brought in to stick to the process and take the losing for a couple years while focusing on continuing the right way to build the organization given our market size and you guys really dont understand how important that is. We wont hit on every guy, but the right baseball business thing to do is exactly what we are doing.

Not to mention another advantage compared to those teams is that we still have more ML talent to deal to continue to add quality team controlled talent when we trade guys like Castro, dietrich, Bour, maybe JT, Straily, and bullpen arms like Ziegler and Barraclough.

          - - - - - - - - - -

Cabrera trade paying dividends 10 years later. Safe to say we crushed them in that deal.

          - - - - - - - - - -

Side note, Schwarber being forced to play the OF sucks cause he's gonna lose playing time eventually given his fielding ability in LF and Rizzo having 1b locked down. Love his bat but with all the depth they have with their hitters he's gonna end up not playing as much as he should be if he was a DH like he should be or at the very least just playing 1b.

The longest post ever made in the history of game threads anywhere on earth.

and i agree that was short sighted (i.e. i dont claim that everything they do is perfect and beyond criticism). doesnt completely take away from the general adherence to a process of building an organization that is sustainable in this market and when the prospects come up in a few years and some pan out wont have entire seasons ruined because of a lack of an ability to survive any injuries whatsoever.

jesus Tayron Guerrero is enormous. let him bulk up a little and he'd probably be the dolphins best option at tight end

ya he's terrible. No idea what happened to him when we traded him to the Reds. He was known when he was with us for having unreal plate discipline and having more walks than K's and he went there and it disappeared and the guys had 62 k's and just 12 walks last year in AAA.

yeah, i'm not sure how to watch this shit this year. like, that doesn't matter, because none of this matters, but a dildoesque at bat like that is still aggravating.

How does Angel Hernandez still have a job as an MLB umpire?

would be super cool to see Guerrero become a useful bullpen piece. I doubt he's learned how to throw strikes all of a sudden though.

has there been anything reported on guerrero changing his mechanics or anything like that? Guy hasnt been able to throw strikes since he got here and all of a sudden in spring he only had 2 walks in 11 innings and he looked fairly filthy just there.
