Because you can try to pitch around him without intentionally walking him.
Because they only needed one out, so the force out at 3rd wasn't really all that important.
Because Cishek was pitching, and with how badly he's been pitching, you shouldn't allow him to put another runner on.

so here comes baker against a righty because we insist on having like 23 pitchers on our staff and double switching at every turnOriginally posted by Madman81Most of the people in the world being dumb is not a requirement for you to be among their ranks.

1. Cishek is really the first guy out of the pen in the 7th inning of a tie ballgame?
2. Sometimes I wonder if this is a real MLB Organization. How the fuck do you go 2 straight games with a 3-man bench? There's no reason for it, really glad some guy with last name Rienzo was on the 25-man the last two games.
3. Batting the pitcher 8th is stupid, but whatever, but it was extra stupid today, because that, coupled with the retarded double switch Jennings made it was like Jennings was purposely trying to use up those 3 pinch-hitters as fast as he possibly could.

Me before the game: Dan Jennings hits the pitcher 8th, which is fine if the lineup is at full strength and you hit someone like Hechavarria or Yelich there. The 2nd lead-off effect is real, but is pointless when your hitter is the worst one in all of Major League Baseball.
Me during the 7th inning: Using Steve Cishek--in a high leverage situation when he has yet to show that he is capable of pitching well all season long? The Marlins bullpen was used a lot yesterday, I get that, but not to the point where you need to bring in your worst pitcher to face the heart of the order in a close game. After all, other relievers managed to pitch the rest of the 7th/8th innings. Why not use Carter Capps or Sam Dyson or Mike Dunn or literally motherfucking anybody else? Oh, and keeping Ozuna in the game? I get that you want to have one your better hitters remain in the game but you do understand that you defeated the purpose of the double-switch, right? The whole point of the double-switch is so that you can keep a pitcher in the game longer because you don't need to bring a pinch-hitter in their spot in the order. What you did was not only allow that to happen, but expedite the fucking process. Not to mention, because Ozuna plays CF you have to take out Ichiro who is one of your better hitters.
Me during the 8th inning: Well, fuck, Baker is gonna have to hit now. Man, wouldn't be nice to have an all-time great hitter in a spot where a single will take the lead rather than a guy with a lifetime OPS against righties under .600? Hmm, if only we had one.
Me after the game: Remember when you said that "managers don't win games, they only lose them," or something to that effect? Well, you're proving your point pretty damn well if I do say so myself. I mean, the managers aren't really that important if they stay out of the fucking way. But you've done more to lose games this season that Redmond ever did. I mean, Redmond lost his job because the bullpen cost the team about five games. You've cost the team at least that many already, if not more, and that's not even counting the games you tried to give away and just failed to do so. The game is just moving too fast for you, Danny, and if you know what's best for you and this organization, you'd quit. Any hope that's left for this season shrivels up every second you remain on the bench.Last edited by thatnewguy; 06-01-2015, 02:10 AM.

Jennings might see it as a quick way to leave the organization while being paid his remaining contract while he finds a high ranking FO job with a real organization or he may want that high draft pick next year when he's back as GM or he just has no idea how to manage a club.
Nick's second point is probably the most important thing here and it's a FO move. I think he's wrong about Rienzo as he's the long-man in the bullpen now with Hand in the rotation. If they can option Cishek, he's the guy that needs to be sent down; he can't be used in meaningful situations, he can't be used to eat innings, and he needs to get work in which he can't do here on a regular schedule. Mazzaro is the other option but he most likely doesn't remain in the organization and he's been getting results all year between AAA and the majors. I don't see them doing anything before today's game and then sending Urena down tomorrow where hopefully they bring up Shoemaker or Dietrich (Rojas would be silly now considering Hech could be back tonight).

I figured you just grabbed a name. I'm not happy Rienzo is in the bullpen right now cause he gets no innings especially with the extra arm. I would have preferred to keep Hand in long relief as I feel he gets used more since he's a lefty with Rienzo in the rotation (actually really want to see Nicolino).

I really don't see how else you can justify sending Brad Hand out there instead. Which is saying a lot, as I don't think any of us are really high on Nicolino.
