All you have to do is look at his spray chart on baseball savant to see he has clearly changed his approach this year compared to last year.Last edited by fish16; 08-08-2023, 07:52 PM.

But his approach hasn’t changed a bit. Goes up there hacking. Often when he makes contact, he briefly has no idea where the ball is because he swung so hard that he’s off balance. I don’t care what the spray charts say; he’s always hacking and anyone who watches games every night knows that.

Put him in the two or three hole and he’d just hit into more double plays like he did last night.
What a weird thing to complain about.
What a dumb lineup change by a team that’s become dumb again.

this team just has no ability to produce big hits. 3rd in hits all year in all of baseball, 21st in doubles,26th in home runs. impossible to combine the hits into runs with how bad the plate discipline is for guys like Sanchez, DLC, Burger, Wendle, Stallings, Fortes, and even jazz against lefties. 27th in walks. Horrific plate discipline up and down the lineup and no ability to drive in runs in bulk.

This year he is pulling just 30% of balls. last year it was 42%. As a result he's hitting line drives 27% of the time this year and last year he was hitting them 19% of the time. He's hitting a lot less fly balls as a result this year though and that's why he hasnt been hitting as many homers.

His launch angle is way down this year too. Even though I’m not sure the change is too bad for him, his overall metrics are better than last year.
He still has his fair share of silly at bats too though like his last one. But I won’t complain about his production, I guess you take what you can with this organization and hitters.
