I dont think so, i think they are working on something big based on what mish has said, but if that is their line that is fireable. it would be inexcusable to not make major moves today to improve the lineup.

    • luis robert is reportedly untouchable. with Dejong gone, it's got to be something with Gorman, Edman, Carlson, Nootbar.

Sadly, while I appreciate Mish's insight and reporting on the fish, he's been too wrong the last few seasons to give benefit of the doubt to regarding trades.

Like I said, I'll happily be wrong and do hope something big IS in the works, I'm just not overly confident, but still holding out some hope.

OR Mish is not wrong and they can't close the deal because they aren't able to value their and other players properly

OR they don't care about closing the deal because they want this July 1, 2024 and unapologetically don't give AF about this year as this is still the longterm plan.

Sandy, Eury, Cabrera, Meyer, Lopez, Bender/Sixto
Luzardo, Rogers, Garrett, Eder, Scott, Puk, Nardi

But then like, you know, that still doesn't give them a reason not to unload Fulton, Monteverde, Cappe, etc. right now. Similar or lesser guys to all of those have gotten the Candelarios and Hills and relievers so who knows.

(I do like that 13 man pitching staff a lot though if that is the predominant staff next year ignoring bat deficiencies. I've mentioned this before they may be unapologetically aiming for the keep all the main arms team believing they can conjure up more good enough offensive contributors. That staff has top overall staff potential in MLB next year so we'll see)

This ship sailed not signing one of the 4 SS or Nimmo or me, but I am open to being surprised.

              • There’s no way they’re not trying to make another deal at least.

It’s not a 2024 thing, otherwise what was the point of the Robertson trade?

                • the cards got a reliever prospect for Dejong. Think Reynolds or Maldonado. We could have beaten that if they wanted. I think they are going bigger but time will tell. We were also 2nd for candelario according to a cubs guy from espn radio in chicago. Candelario is the one who hurt because he is a huge improvement on Segura, but i'll reserve judgment for 6:01 pm/

                  • It’s amazing we couldn’t get Candelario. Seemed like the perfect fit to me.

                      they of course are making another deal. The question is who it will be. It's got to be the cardinals in my opinion. either blow them out of the water for Goldschmidt if he is at all available, or go for a combo of 2 of their other position players using rogers, eder, and other prospects. They are the perfect matchup for us. I also wouldnt be surprised to see us take a flier on tyler o neill in one of those possible deals. Gallegos makes too much sense, and so do whatever combo of controlled position players they have. I think it's gonna happen;

same. Especially for the cost. That's why i think they will get something done for guys with multiple years of control. It's not like our window closes after this year. The whole core is under contract and the pitchers should theoretically be let loose more next year in terms of innings limits, so getting guys under control for next year as well is probably the way this shakes out.

                        • I wonder if they try something around Sanchez for Torres, then use the pitching for one of the cardinals infielders and a guy like Carlson. The net would be Torres, Carlson, and Gorman/Edman/Donovan while we give up Sanchez, Eder, and then other prospects.

                          • If Grandal is truly available for just a team who will be willing to pay him, and they are not over it, that is pathetic. He's not at his peak but his bat is so clearly better than what we have. It's not long term money, he's gone after the year. He needs to be here.

                            • 4 hours left. That’s a lot of time on deadline day. No way they don’t add on after acquiring Robertson.

In their defense, Trea Turner has had a pretty mediocre year, Correa has been mediocre, Bogaerts has a .739 OPS and they are paying him into his 40's, and Dansby Swanson has been good but nothing special. The bigger mistake is not trading even more pitching for more cost controlled hitting. They are never going to be in the game for deals that pay good players into their late 30s for 25+ million per year.
