A deal we could maybe make for a catcher of the future is Korey Lee. He is still projected well but is blocked at C in Houston and struggling a bit in AAA.

Maybe let's hold on the selling until after Tampa? If they can sweep the Rocks and pick one off in Tampa, going 4-7 to open with a three game with Detroit can course correct pretty quickly, etc.
But man this was not the way to open at all. I blame the FO for lack of making moves already, but Bruce even more for not signing guys in the offseason.

im telling you there is something mechanically with sandy with runners on pitching out of the stretch. Maybe not tipping pitches because he would have figured that out by now, but i think there is something up that is causing him to hang pitches out of the stretch continuously and have these huge innings. His numbers with no one on are only a little worse than last year.

also, the cardinals outfield defense has been unreal this series. They have continuously tracked down really sharply hit balls. They are going to find pitching this offseason and be right back to the class of that division next year. This idea that they are trading goldschmidt and arenado is a pipe dream

1st and 3d no outs and you get no runs.

Arenado has an unmoveable contract, but if the Cardinals really tank you can easily see them moving him for someone like Andrew Painter/Mick Abel. They are smart and would just sign someone to fill the void like a real franchise. That being said, I do think Carlson, Edman, Flaherty, Montgomery, Gallegos, Hicks, etc. are what they will look to move as they'd need to be blown away for Paul (which is what those Phillies pitchers are). They will be in great shape next year no doubt about it.
The double plays are insane. They are now at 103 for the year and next closest team is 81. 10 teams in baseball didn't go over 103 all of last year. We got a lot of games to go. Jesus guys.

ZIPS is loving Edwards improvements and is a big gainer in midseason update. A 1.7 WAR projection for NEXT year - https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-2024...iners-hitters/
That would be awesome.
But I guess a game is on right now or something something.

arenado doesnt have this albatross contract? He is a great player getting paid good money. It's 4 years, 109 million after this year. The last 2 years are 27 million and 15 million. This idea that he has an unmovable contract is nonsense. He is the best 3b in baseball and has been for close to a decade and is possibly the best fielding 3b of all time. His WAR by year since 2015 is 4.5, 5.9, 6.1, 6.2, 6.5, .7 (COVID year), 4.1, 7.3 last year, and 2.3 this year in just over half a year. what the fuck are you talking about? They arent moving him.
Also, how does one have an unmovable contract but also can easily see them trading for a top 10 prospect in baseball in the same sentence?
Also, the rockies are paying 15.5 million of that money in the next few years. They are paying 16 million for him this year. That contract is a bargain for what he provides. He has some deferred money well after retirement (30 million over 10 years), but for the rest of it it's essentially 4 years 93 million. He's an absolute bargain.Last edited by fish16; 07-19-2023, 04:22 PM.
